I’m not sure that Southie’s refusal is equivalent to denial of what you are stating.

Its not the refusal its the stated element of hypocrisy. He is stating my factual statement that Dalits are treated like trash in Hinduism is akin to Katy Perry’s video of burning the pendant. They are not the same.

A relevant example would have been that Katy Perry stated that the Quran allows for spousal abuse, which it does. Both are statements based in fact and what religion has defined as acceptable. Just like the caste system has a basis in Hinduism.

Now if I had said it was okay to set on fire a hindu symbol or preached some element of hinduism being idiotic then yes that would indeed be hypocrisy on my part.

However opening ignoring parts of the faith that is abhorrent and saying people who mention it as insulting the faith is indeed sticking your head in the sand.

There is one verse in the Gita where Krishna says

If a Brahmin does the work of a Shudra he has sinned
if a Shudra does the work of a Brahmin he has sinned

I interpret that as each should do the duty assigned to him. For that time, it may have made sense. Not any more. I reject that verse. Period.

There would be similar verses in the Quran that may not make sense for today

So point here is, we can always pick and choose to throw potshots at a Religion. And insult it. Some choose to do it. The vast majority - including here - don’t.

Let us assume there is no such verse. In my latest post, I have indicated that engaging in debates of why another religion is bad is not healthy. And that those that engage is such dirty tactics are hypocrites when they cry foul when someone offends their sensibilities by disrespecting their religion.

hinduism is everything from cannibalism to atheism to orgasm worship, there has traditionally been no separation of culture and religion. real question is, are hindus campaigning for bringing back and enforcing the ancient caste system? or employing people in jobs based on their traditional caste prescription?
