Katy Perry Shmaty Perry

Re: Katy Perry Shmaty Perry

It actually is not a cultural aspect. It is based on various aspects of the Hindu faith.

The varnashrama is the definition of the caste system and comes from the religious texts.

Re: Katy Perry Shmaty Perry

Spread peace, spread love and insurance hacks, too.

Re: Katy Perry Shmaty Perry

There is one verse in the Gita where Krishna says

If a Brahmin does the work of a Shudra he has sinned
if a Shudra does the work of a Brahmin he has sinned

I interpret that as each should do the duty assigned to him. For that time, it may have made sense. Not any more. I reject that verse. Period.

There would be similar verses in the Quran that may not make sense for today

So point here is, we can always pick and choose to throw potshots at a Religion. And insult it. Some choose to do it. The vast majority - including here - don’t.

Re: Katy Perry Shmaty Perry

What about varnashrama and the rig deva (spelling?)

Re: Katy Perry Shmaty Perry

Veda…close

Re: Katy Perry Shmaty Perry

hinduism is everything from cannibalism to atheism to orgasm worship, there has traditionally been no separation of culture and religion. real question is, are hindus campaigning for bringing back and enforcing the ancient caste system? or employing people in jobs based on their traditional caste prescription?

Re: Katy Perry Shmaty Perry

Since you are attempting to put forth a very detailed and pedantic argument then I ask that when you quote me you do it in context.

My suggestion that redvelvet was “frustrated and venting” referred to her sarcasm related to Cheegum’s post about praying fajr namaz and not in any way to her objection to the video in question in that thread.

Let’s keep the facts straight and not misrepresent someone in an effort to make ourselves look intelligent.

Much thanks.

Re: Katy Perry Shmaty Perry

And what do those two questions have to do with a music video by katy perry?

Re: Katy Perry Shmaty Perry

This post of yours, pal. amnesia much?

Re: Katy Perry Shmaty Perry

Nope it was your pal Southie. Either way what I was referring to is how does bringing back the caste system fit into any of the discussion in this thread so far? The discussion is on whether it is based on religious texts.

Re: Katy Perry Shmaty Perry

if it was your pal southie, why did you reply with like a dozen off-topic posts and suddenly have a problem with my post?

Re: Katy Perry Shmaty Perry

Moderators this thread has lost its All Views-ness. Kindly move it to Religion. :hinna:

Re: Katy Perry Shmaty Perry

it’s mod free month…still.

:stuck_out_tongue:

Re: Katy Perry Shmaty Perry

Again the question was what does employment based on the caste system have to do with the discussion? I know its a snarky little dig at a subject that someone has posted about. Basically I am attempting to figure out what you are condescending and snarky about.

Re: Katy Perry Shmaty Perry

simples. this.

varnashrama = empolyment based on caste.

you asked, i answered. if you dont understand, try reading it a few times over, pal. :flowers:

Re: Katy Perry Shmaty Perry

LOL! So the religious description of the caste system and hymns are now related to employment. Well done.

Edit: I get it now. So I used the wrong term. But here is the question most hindu religious websites use the same term but they use it as a categorization of the castes.

I understand that varna is the definition of the classes. But they use it here as well:

http://www.krishna.com/what-do-we-mean-varnashrama

So is it employment or is it spiritual advancement?

Re: Katy Perry Shmaty Perry

well genius, what is your understanding of varnashrama if not employment based on caste? :smack:

Re: Katy Perry Shmaty Perry

Check the link posted above. You may slap yourself for being stupid now.

Re: Katy Perry Shmaty Perry

look who suddenly wants to go off topic. :hehe:

so you want to have some kind of google copy-paste discussion on hinduism? yeah.. no.

Re: Katy Perry Shmaty Perry

Pfft you don’t copy paste you take a limited amount of knowledge like the ability to use google translate and use that. The term varna refers to the caste system. Ashram is employment. Thus your dig about caste based employment, which i know get. I should use google translate more often.

However the point remains that the employment by caste is defined in Hinduism and has a religious basis.
