I was looking at Karachi election result and found it very interesting. I was expecting PTI gains in Karachi was at expense of MQM, but that was not the case, as MQM may have lost votes in some constituencies to PTI, but at others MQM gained votes. It seems, biggest vote loser to PTI was PPP.
Most interesting situation was PPP and ANP getting wiped out. I do not know why, but it would be nice to think about it. I do not think such situation would last, as I feel PPP may bounce back in future, regaining their votes from PTI and other parties. PPP was once the strongest party in Karachi, getting 3 out of 7 NA seats in 1970 election. Please comment.
I know that when some people look at Karachi election results, they get tantrum, claiming rigging and intimidation as cause of big MQM mandate. If I accept their baseless and absurd claims, then there is no need for analysis, as when rigging and intimidation is the criteria of winning elections in Karachi that MQM has mastered, than MQM would keep winning seats with big margin, regardless of ground realities, and one should even forget talking about election in Karachi.
That is the reason, before putting down the analysis, I am mentioning some facts that people should ponder, as their claims against known and verifiable facts can only give them tantrum but would not bring any change in ground realities of Karachi and Karachi election results.
It is possible that rigging happens in Karachi just like rigging happens all across Pakistan in election. But massive rigging, all by MQM, that is affecting election results, I believe that is not only preposterous propaganda but also day dreaming and bias thinking.
Fact is that, if MQM was rigging poll in big way, than no way they would have lost NA-250 to PTI, especially when they won this seat in 2008 with 8000 vote lead (very low lead margin when we compare this win with other MQM wins where margins itself could be over 100,000 votes). With such nominal lead and with so many new factors along with PTI getting knee jerk popularity support and votes across Pakistan including Karachi, main seat target to hold for MQM would have been NA-250. Re-polling happened on 43 out of 180 polling stations, and that means, IF … I mean IF MQM rigs to win, than MQM would have massively rigged NA 250 seats getting over 100000 vote lead from polling station that had no re-polling. Surprisingly, MQM even lost on those 137 polling stations that had no re-polling … where PTI got 60000 votes and MQM got 30000 votes.
End result shows MQM do not rig election. On the other hand, known proof of rigging by any political party in any Karachi constituency is only one, that is party candidate taking ballot papers, polling stamps and polling boxes to polling stations, that happened in NA-250, where Arif Alvi (PTI) was caught doing so, and when questioned admitted that he did took in his car polling papers, polling stamps and polling boxes to polling stations, courtesy of ECP and authorities conducting election.
On the other hand, if rigging and intimidation is the result of massive votes MQM gets, than there would not have been huge number of vote loss in some strongest constituencies of MQM and PTI gaining that huge votes loss from those constituencies. However, if anyone claims that MQM votes are due to rigging and intimidation, then if that is the criteria of getting votes in Karachi, than they should also claim that PTI vote gains in Karachi is also due to rigging and intimidation.
Anyhow, Karachi overall election results of 19 constituencies. Election is postponed on 1 constituency (NA-254) due to ANP candidate killed by Kharjees.

Comment: Election held at 19 constituencies, election on 1 constituency is postponed due to ANP candidate killed by Taliban Kharjees:
MQM: Gained 1 seat held 15 seats. Expect to hold 1 more seat, Lost 1 seat. (Overall, same number of seats as before). Total seats, 16 out of 19 (expect 17 out of 20 Karachi seats, as what they got in 2008 election). Mix result as far as votes are concerned. Gained votes in 10 constituencies … Lost votes in 9 constituencies.
PPP: Lost 2 seats and held 1 seat.
Substantial vote lost in 18 out of 19 constituencies election held.
PTI: Gained a seat. Had substantial gain in votes, mostly at the expense of PPP, though also gained votes from MQM in some constituencies, especially where MQM had overwhelming vote bank. Gained votes from ANP (who got wiped out) and other parties did not contested.
ANP: Lost almost all votes they held in Karachi, most moving to other parties, especially PTI.
PMLN: Gained 1 seat at the expense of PPP. Some increase in vote banks, again at the expense of PPP, ANP, and religious parties.
Religious parties, especially Muttahida Deeni Mahaz showed their presence getting few thousand votes from various constituencies. JI, JUP (Noorani) and JUP (Fazlu) also showed their presence in some constituencies.
