Oh I'm trying. I work out for 40 mins a day anyways. The problem I have with the shred is that for some reason its really taxing on my ankles... I had some seering pain at the base of my ankles and I could barely do the jump rope move. I'm gonna keep at it though and see how I fare.

i get that pain too. knees and ankles. though its subsided somewhat

I just did Day 2 of the workout. I'm feeling it now in my arms and upper back. But I'm motivated and can't wait to do Day 3, InshaAllah.

right took on ur cardio suggestion Sajalina, and I now do 2 circuits of Jillians banish fat boost metabolism workout, which last about 12 mins. I do them straight after the shred and before the cool down. will let u know how I get on and thanks for that!

As for ur knee pains people I have been googling and a lot of people are suggesting knee braces and deep stretching i.e a longer cool down stretching routine afterwards. I don't know what happened to me, I've had really painful rheumatoid arthiritis for the last 5 years at times I haven't even left bed because my legs wouldn't straighten up because my knees were so stiff, Alhamdulillah, my knees and other joints have not bothered me once since I started this workout. I do it bare foot and on a hard carpeted surface.

I did Day 2 yesterday. I've also been having a lot of pains around the knees and esp' in my shoulders and upper back. I'll go a little easy on the Day 3 workout today.

I too have knee problems that come and go. What helps me other than taking pain killers is icing them. Give that a try specially after a workout and see if that helps you girls.

I didn't do it yesterday (would have been day 4)... I needed to give my legs a rest and they feel a lot better now... so I'm ready to tackle it again today.

The upper body pain, I think is normal... its that stiffness you feel when you know you've had a really good work out.

it gets better by day 5.. promise.... and the knee braces are awesome with the shred. i got mine.... cuz they were starting to hurt. those lunges are no good for knees... especially with weights.

**level 2 day 3, 4 and 5

nothing new to report.... its going great... ive dropped from size **16 to 12. WOHOOOOOO.

the strenght training is getting better... just the last set is hard and i cant do it with weights... exhausted by then. the waist is considerably diff... in size... the back boobs are slowly diminishing.. but not as fast as the waist.. i want them gone!

hmmna: ok.. a typical day for me is this

wake up at 7 with midget... have 4 glasses of water in an hour. this really rinses out your system and moisturizes it.

at 10.. genie wakes up.. give her the bottle and have bfast myself.. which is always always muesli (it used to be all chocolate until one day mr tall educated me and said... your body will burn this sugar first.. and then the fat.. are you working out enough in the shred to make sure it even gets to fat burning?! .. i quit the chcolate muesli and bought boring fruit one instead :( )

after an hour of having had food.. i do my shred.... shower... by this time its feeding time for genie... feed her.

drink a glass full of skim milk

cook dinner and make a light snack for midget. clean up the place.. laundry .. vaccuum .. whateverr needs to be done.

put genie to nap

make a salad with any kinda salad leaves... an apple, any kinda cheese.. one slice or about 2 tbsp.. i love brie or havarti, cucumber, sunflower seeds or melon seeds, capsicum, 2 tbsp corn (sometimes), mushroom... and any kinda protein or fish.. make it nice and filling. oh and croutons... about 2 tbsp. mmmm.

have 2 hours to eat the salad... and relax before genie wakes up and midget comes home... at the same time. on the dot! hehe.

this is also the only time i literally get to sit down. no kidding.

genie wakes up... midget comes homes (sometimes i pick him up.. infact im gonna make this my job cuz it always is good to do a light walk after a work out)..

give them both food.. prep food for the next day.

once they are done.. play around with them... this is no less than the shred.

after 2 hours.. its dinner time... 6.30 pm. all of us. either roti.. veggies which includes potato.. baked protein or fish.. or roti salan. whatever it is.. we all eat it.. i have no diff diet food... one roti, 2 or 3 serving spoons of rice... 4-5 potatoes... etc. (ofcourse not at the same time haha)...

thats it for the day. i drink a lot of water.. i love water... lots of it. we drink green tea on and off after meals. nothing religious.

we dont bring any pitcher of water to the table... if u feel thirsty or ate something spicey.. say hello to uncle yoghurt.

after an hour.. water becomes available :D

some quiet time before midet goes off to bed after a glass of milk... followed by genie.

milk time for us grown ups. skim again.

end day.

you will see i didnt add any snacks. i dont. probalby cuz everything i could snack on.. its been put in the salad haha :D

as for junk food... i wont lie.. i have it here and there. but not everyday. like today the pull was too great.. i had 1 stick of twix. i shall not deprive myself. :hehe.

I have a question for u fellow shredders..is it poss to build muscle and burn fat at the same time? I dont want to end up with muscly arms as a result of this workout, I am using 1.1kg weights. I would like to lose weight of my biceps instead of them becoming muscly..right now looking in the mirror I cant tell whether im losing fat or gaining muscle, I have a feeling this will be the last place I lose my weight from!

I'm in the phone so can't go in detail thanks to fat finger syndrome and autocorrect.... But its impossible to become muscular for women...by lifting weights as.puny as 1.5 kg. Impossible. Even 20 lbs won't do anything.... It's all in the biology.... And muscle mass...which women don't have much of.

Google it... You will be put to ease.

You won't become muscular but you will build more muscle in general which in turn raises your metabolism because muscle need a high metabolism to function even while just sitting. I've noticed since I started working out I'm a lot more toned but not muscle-y... I don't want to be muscle-y anyways.

i have finished the shred.

i did it 26 days out of 30. I just want to quickly go over my observations.
firstly I had really hyped it up for myself. I was expecting to lose a truck load of lbs just doing 20 min of exercise a day. Well obviously that didn’t happen.

i have lost a total of 5 lbs and 1.5 inches off my waist.

Pros:
its very easy to fit into your day. For a couch potato like me that was the whole allure. I like the 3:2:1 format. It’s very cheap and you need minimal equipment. Jillian is the only exercise person I can tolerate.

Semi-cons:
Knees and ankles. Be very careful with form. I was extra careful but I still managed to injure my knees and ankles.
also no way are you gna lose 20 lbs in a month with only this as the cd cover boasts.

Random observations:
Jillian dsnt knw the meaning of “a couple” , numerous times in the DVD she says a couple more and goes on and on.
Natalie isn’t as much of a badass as Jillian want us to believe. She cheats when she thinks the camera is not on her.
It annoys me when Jillian just does two or three reps and then starts chatting to the camera.
Level 3 is quite disorienting. The going from one move to the next is not fluid. I wasted too much time getting off and on the mat.
I was doin it off YouTube and it was funny the dramatic way the views were diminishing with each level.

overall it’s a great way of going into exercise if you haven’t done so for a while.

Oh yeah let me know how ripped is! I want to try it after but I'm afraid I won't be able to stand Jilliam much after these 30 days!

you have a sound plan... just stick to it and you will be smoking hot in no time.. ahem ;)

im planning on starting ripped too.. when im done with teh shred.. and was gonna start another thread similar to this just so shred has its own and ripped its own... easier for ppl to join and follow...

do you wanan do that since you are starting ripped bfore i am? write a basic summary of what its about.. and what it promises.. followed by what you hope to acheive.

and then update it daily or whenever you work out... as a log. you will work out cuz u will know you have write bout it..i know i will be waiting to hear bout your dailiy work out.. hehe... i think thats what got a lot of girls to start off the shred ... cuz i wrote bout my work out everyday.. here.

just a suggestion.. if u wanna just write bout it here... thats ok too :) (i talk as if i own this thread.. haha).
