Japanese Hair Straightening

Does anyone know of a good place to get Japanese Hair Straightening done in New York?

Re: Japanese Hair Straightening

flushing mainstreet. go to some nice chinese salon. they wont charge you an arm and a leg and do a decent job.

Re: Japanese Hair Straightening

Good luck! I'm having my hair straightened again at the end of this month and can't wait :)

Re: Japanese Hair Straightening

Doesn't your hair get damaged by this kind of processing?
Especially if you are doing it repeatedly....

Re: Japanese Hair Straightening

it definitely damages the hair especially if your hair is on the fine (thinner) side.

Re: Japanese Hair Straightening

how long does it last the japanese hair straightening?

Re: Japanese Hair Straightening

Once a hair has been treated it stays straight, its only the new growth that comes out in its natural state. So it depends upon your hair growth, the faster your hairgrowth the sooner you will need touchups or a blowdryer. I have been getting my hair straightened every 12 months for about 4 yrs now I think. I get them done around april/may when the heat kicks in, till then the hair dryer keeps the new growth straight enough. But I am tempted to stop it now, not sure, dunno what to do. Not that the hair is damaged or anything but i just feel afraid of the day its too! totally confused.

femme: does the hair lose volume after the process?

Re: Japanese Hair Straightening

wht abt if you want to get a bun or curls in ur hair, can you get it done after you get japanese hair straightening done?

Re: Japanese Hair Straightening

Shweets for the first few weeks it will look very flat but when u get a bit of growth it looks really good then, probably its best. This straight perm actually makes the hair look healthy and not light weighted.

Aisha curling the hair is possible. I actually always curl the ends a tad bit so they curl in at the ends instead of falling straight and spiky. I used to have them in layers before and would use a tong to curl the ends, they looked really good then but now i have them all in one length. Making a bun is also possible, it won;t be a perfectly prim and tucked bun, it will have hair sticking out of it, very japanese. I have never tried spiral curl sort of hairdo's so not sure if u can do that or not just use some gell/hair spray to keep them for longer. They do loosen without hairspray, don;t turn totally spikey straight but do loosen.

Re: Japanese Hair Straightening

i think i had better steer well clear, my hair is bleached and been through serious trauma during my GHD happy days.... now so i'm scared even to brush it anymore!!! i think i need to do a britney and start over!

Re: Japanese Hair Straightening

ye they don't even do it on bleached/damaged hair.

Re: Japanese Hair Straightening

^ Ok what xactly do they do? What do they put on it, how does it stay so straight, after washing and everyhting?

Re: Japanese Hair Straightening

You might want to consider using an Avlon relaxer such as Affirm or FiberGuard. Their products are significantly less damaging than every relaxer available. Japanese relaxers cost an arm and a leg and require the same amount of maintenance.

Re: Japanese Hair Straightening

Im too scared to get it done in case it ruins my hair in the long term!:bummer:
I just use the GHDs.

Re: Japanese Hair Straightening

whats the diff b\w perm straight and japaness straightin,, and how much does it cost $$ i heard its quite expensive. is it worth it i mean 4 plp who blowdyer their hair everyday.. or blowdrayer is better.

Re: Japanese Hair Straightening

It doesn't damage the hair, if anything it helps condition the hair as they seal in proteins into the hair shaft during the process. it does leave your hair feeling finer though cos it kinda stretches when they straighten it. I've had it done four times in the past 6 years and each time I say it'll be my last but when I think of how hassle free and convenient it is to just be able to wash your hair and leave it dry naturally I end up having it done again :)

Re: Japanese Hair Straightening

Brit Girls.. Don't waste money by going to a clinic.. If you go into Boots they have a hair straightening Kit for £15.. My hair has never been so straight..

You have 3 steps.. a preparation treatment .. (like a relaxer)
An ionising treatment and a conditioning treatment..

*It takes approx 2 hours and I did it myself but would be easier if someone helped.. *

I was looking at Yuko treatment but at £300 a go I thought again..

Let me know if you need any more advice but I would definitely recommend the Boots pack

Re: Japanese Hair Straightening

^I've seen the hair straightening kit in Boots too, but never picked up enough courage to go ahead and try doing it myself at home as I'm terrified of ruining my hair. Also, my hair's yuko's already (although the majority has grown out hence the need for a new treatment) and also highlighted. Maybe if it wa svirgin hair then I'd feel braver.

Was it complicated to do?

Re: Japanese Hair Straightening

hmm I was worried too as the relaxer bit .. you're hair starts going limp and is really sensitive... once you wash the relaxer out you have to massage a cream in and straighten hair with GHD's ... then another step.....
I'd do it as a girls night in thing.. It took me 2 hours but the results are superb.... I just wash my hair and that's it.. I have a natural wave in mine as I dodn't keep it on long enough but you need to follow the instructions..
Not sure about pre yuko hair.. I know that it should be virgin hair as in no colour or bleach..
