I know they are very influential power of Pakistan; but i’d like to know the details/specifics. Just how important of a role to they play?
Any information regarding their power would be great.

On a more serous not they are the largest, and along with other agencies such as MI they for some unknown reason have a reputation of interfering in matters outside their jurisdiction becuase they can under the pretence of national security. No one really makes sure they are held accountable.
A well known example would be Sheik Omar, the guy who was behind the kidnap and murder of Daniel pearl gave himself into the ISI. They hid him away for a week while the Karachi Special branch where crazily searching the country for him; being prime suspect in the case.

General Mahmoud Ahmad, ex-head of ISI is alleged to have paid Mohammed Atta the ring leader of 9/11 $100,000 through a proxy. Allegidly why he was removed, some of his interviews show his pro jihadi, almost simillar to Mullah Omar and OBL views of Muslims do no evil, jews are to blame for everything. I was shocked such an idiot is the head of such a powerful organisation.

Lt Gen Javed Nasir, another chief of ISI, along with Gen Hamid Gul, are alleged to hold similar views..and so are the views of other generals...liike Gen Aziz Khan, Aslam Beg, Gen Asad Durrani, ...etc...the view seems all-perveading...

The new crop of ISI cheif's are however different, they don't have the same bent of mind as was the case with Gen Gul and his successors.

No they don't. Intelligence agencies in rest of the civilized world are under govt control, and operate under the law, and in fact are accountable, unlike ISI. ISI is de facto state within state, and is not accountable nor does in operates within parameters of law. In fact, if I was Bush, I would've declared it as terror org. and I would've force the govt of Pakistan to clean it up and re name this thuggish organization.
