Is too much attention to Islam hindering development in Pak?

I see our people concerned more with implementing their supposed interpretations of Islam all the time. This seems to be their only fantasy. And this is true specifically for the educated people. The very same people who decide a country’s course of action.
Our emphasis on all-things-Islamic is so much that we neglect factors necessary for development of any country. Factors like education, peace, justice, rule of law, clean-government, economy, jobs, to name a few.

It looks like our people have accepted their condition as their fate. We seem to have learned to live in misery, and we have no idea what a happy, prosperous life looks like.
Hence our people held tens of demonstrations against Facebook. So much so that the court had to ban it. And yet there have been no demonstrations about economic hardships and successive governments’ failures.

The only aim of life of some of our people seem to be only to ensure separation of sexes in all fields. But they would be nothing but talk when crimes in society are mentioned.

It frustrates me to see us in such a bad shape when I compare Pakistan with the rest of the world. I want to see my country developed.

There is small number of people who want Pakistan to be a ‘Islamic Caliphate’, just look how big a support Islamic political parties get and how much other parties get support during elections that I believe is a good enough indicator of how “Islamism” is affecting Pakistan’s progress. Its not possible to ask everyone to think along only one line, let everybody think and do what they can as long as it is towards Pakistan’s interests but nothing wrong/abusive towards fellow Pakistanis whether its in name of religion or ethnicity.

I have been thinking the same thing for some time now. I don’t know if religion itself is to blame for it. If you look at ‘sucessful’ states, they are not dictated by religious laws or rules.
I think we should not be confined by any thing including religion.

The success has come only in last few decades, where was this success 200 years ago? I don’t think they abandoned religion only in last few decades from govt.

Yes. So busy jamming Islam down everyone’s throats, they can’t make any progress.

How many people are actually jamming religion everyone’s throat? You are hanging out with wrong people or reading wrong media.
