We were just discussing that after sehri. Like Niksik mentioned state of emergency has been declared. It's suppose to hit this weekend. May Allah(swt) keep everyone safe.

Re: Irene...
Thanks for your prayers and wishes,
Have any of u guys ever been in severe conditions before ? Some cities that are 15-25 miles around my home are to be evacuated. Actually part of the city am living in is to be evacuated as well. However authorities don't think for us evacuating is mandatory. So am planning to spend weekend home. We have friends and families joining us too.
I do plan to stock some water, peanuts, some food on me. Our basement is huge, should we plan to use that as shelter if things go bad ? Are their some recommendations from folks who have been in such situation before ? Do i need to stock something else ?
Thanks for ur replies.

“Sandbags, generators, bottled water and flashlights are popular items for those looking to be prepared for whatever the Category 3 hurricane brings. Some East Coast residents are stock-piling gas.”
Here is a link to what emergency supplies you may want to have available:

Re: Irene…
you’ll be alright. at the most, you are looking at very short term power shortages. most likely though, it may not even rain on monday in the nyc area. I was in houston when hurricane rita appeared. almost 4 million evacuated the city and nothing happened. except for this List of fallacies - Wikipedia
And that was supposed to be a cat 4 hurricane. This one’s supposed to be cat 2 at the most. which mean, if you are not on the coast, you are expecting heavy rain…and that’s it.
Re: Irene...
Ameen sum ameen
And costco usually have emergency packs which have water and everything, are you people buying them.
Re: Irene...
Ameen . I live in one of the affected states , getting calls from friends and family about our well being. I appreciate their kind gesture . We live hundreds of miles inland and will have high winds and may face power shortage because of fallen trees. They do not expect any rain , or stormy conditions in our city.
Re: Irene…
Thanks, i am abt 12 miles of the coast, So hopefully it will be all fine.
Re: Irene...
All subways and buses are going to come to a stop at noon tomorrow.
Dr. Lulworth, everyone is hoping that whatever you said comes true, but what if it doesn't? I'm about 10 miles from the water, and atleast my town isn't evacuating right now. The winds are expected to be 70-80 mph if the hurricane passes by and not hit. let's see what happens.
Re: Irene...
Be safe and well prepared you guys!
Re: Irene...
I just bought some flashlights. Have to charge up all the laptop batteries :D
Re: Irene...
I'm flying into New York tonight, will be on the East Side. According to the evacuation maps, my parents flat is not included.
Where can I go to stock up, assuming that the shelves have be cleaned out by other shoppers? D'Agostinos? 7-11? :D
Re: Irene...
Oh yeah how could you ever live without a laptop :D! What about emergency candles? Fill up water in the tubs and drinking water in bottles.
Re: Irene...
Pak-one, cross over to Queens, there's a Costco there. Tons of shopping in LI City.
We got tons of candles and it always looks like an emergency when you light them up.
I don't think we'd be worried about bathing this weekend :D (just kidding)
Re: Irene…
Bathing? The tub filling is for having water available to flush the toilets incase of running water shortage
!

Thanks Tofibaba: Do you think that they will have enough in stock? I'm landing at Kennedy so I might as well pick up stuff along the way.
