Summary of Ranjan Mudagalle’s findings](http://content-usa.cricinfo.com/engvpak/content/current/story/260776.html)

September 28, 2006
The text of the statement read out by Brian Murgatroyd at The Oval ahead of the full media conference which details the findings of Ranjan Mudagalle, the ICC’s senior match referee

Ball-tampering
On the first charge of ball-tampering under paragraph 2.9 of the Code, I find Mr ul-Haq not guilty.

Having regard to the seriousness of the allegation of ball-tampering (it is an allegation of cheating), I am not satisfied on the balance of probabilities that there is sufficiently cogent evidence that the fielding team had taken action likely to interfere with the condition of the ball.
In my judgment, the marks are as consistent with normal wear and tear of a match ball after 56 overs as they are with deliberate human intervention.

Mr Saini (acting on behalf of the ICC) submitted that I should not reject the consistent views of the experienced ICC witnesses. I have considered their evidence, honestly and fairly given, very carefully. But my duty is to form and give my own judgment. Bringing the game into disrepute
On the second charge of bringing the game into disrepute by refusing to play, I find Mr ul-Haq guilty in that on two occasions he led a protest against the Umpires by failing to come onto the field of play at the relevant time.

I take the view, subject of course to any further submissions Mr Gay may wish to make, that this is a Level 3 charge, leading to a penalty of a ban of between 2 and 4 Test Matches or between 4 and 8 ODI Matches.
I will now hear Mr Gay (acting on behalf of the Pakistan Cricket Board) on any submissions you wish to make on the appropriate penalty.

Re: INZI NOT GUILTY OF BALL TAMPERING CHARGE/ GUILTY OF BRINGING THE GAME INTO DISREPUTE

It is evident that moral victory belongs to Pakistan and Inzi. As mentioned earlier in one of the articles, for the sake of political correctness, ICC have to punish Inzi for protesting and thats what happen.

As far as appeal goes, Pakistan should and must appeal against the decision. Not for the purpose of allowing Inzi to play Champions Trophy, because that won't happen. In case of appeal, ICC will give their verdict in 7 days.

But Pakistan must appeal that Inzi should either get a ban of 4 ODI's or 2 Test matches. Not always but often players get the ban in the form of 1 Test or 2 ODI's or 2 Tests or 4 ODI's. If Inzi gets this option he can easily serve his ban during the test series against Windies.

Shaher Yar Khan as usual continues his “Yavv-liyaan”, says “we are very satisfied”.

Similar repot on Geo Tv.

Re: INZI NOT GUILTY OF BALL TAMPERING CHARGE/ GUILTY OF BRINGING THE GAME INTO DISREPUTE

I hope they should appeal and ask ICC to give Inzi an option of serving his ban either in 4 ODI's or 2 Test matches. He can then play Champions Trophy and serve his ban against Windies.

Re: INZI NOT GUILTY OF BALL TAMPERING CHARGE/ GUILTY OF BRINGING THE GAME INTO DISREPUTE

Inzi took a decision, the nation stood behind him and supported him all the way. We feel VINDICATED by today’s decision. The forfeit of a test match and 4 match ODI ban is a small price to pay for getting a bigot and racist person like Hair out of cricket. khus kum jahan Pak. :jhanda:

Re: INZI NOT GUILTY OF BALL TAMPERING CHARGE/ GUILTY OF BRINGING THE GAME INTO DISREPUTE

Inzamam himself told Pakistan TV: "The whole nation has supported our decision. This was a matter of respect for our team and country. We fought for what we thought was right. Team's reputation in the past hasn't been great and so this was important. It was important to register our protest becuase if we didn't then it wouldn't have gotten this far even and now it has been proved we are not guilty of ball tampering. This is a victory for Pakistan.
"I had an idea that I would face some sort of ban. This is the most lenient ban and I will not appeal against it."

Re: INZI NOT GUILTY OF BALL TAMPERING CHARGE/ GUILTY OF BRINGING THE GAME INTO DISREPUTE

Its funny how English & Aus media reporting the news. 95% of the headlines are "INZI got 4 matches ban" and last paragraph of the articles are "Inzi however was not found guilty of ball tempering, had he....."

4 match ban my butt!! for heaven sake, main news was that "Inzi/Pakistan was not found guilty of ball tempering" and this should be the headline!!!

Re: INZI NOT GUILTY OF BALL TAMPERING CHARGE/ GUILTY OF BRINGING THE GAME INTO DISREPUTE

Re: INZI NOT GUILTY OF BALL TAMPERING CHARGE/ GUILTY OF BRINGING THE GAME INTO DISREPUTE

ICC Press Conference in ten minutes time. This will be followed by Pakistan press conference. both going to be live on BBC.
*Doctorve was asked by BBC if he feels vindicated, he replied he accepts the decision of the refree. Looked as if he was about to cry. He refused to answer when asked where does this leave his future as an umpire. *

Re: INZI NOT GUILTY OF BALL TAMPERING CHARGE/ GUILTY OF BRINGING THE GAME INTO DISREPUTE

Thanks for the update Ehsan bhai, and I agree if we can get rid of him with Inzi serving a 4 match ban then it was worth it.

Re: INZI NOT GUILTY OF BALL TAMPERING CHARGE/ GUILTY OF BRINGING THE GAME INTO DISREPUTE

I don’t know if everyone is satisfied with this decision. Atleast I am not entirely satisfied. We strongly believed that our team didn’t cheat, therefore most of us were not expecting any ban for ball tampering.

Yes it was evident that Inzi will get a ban, which by the way he got because of a situation created by Darell Hair. Why ICC is not probing and calling an investigation against a person, whose illegitimate reasoning led to this fiasco???

I am sure Madugalle and others understand the circumstances which resulted in Pakistan’s protest, so why didn’t they make sure that Inzi should not miss an important tournament like Champions Trophy. Why didn’t they gave him a ban of 4 ODI’s or 2 Test matches.

I know moral victory belongs to Pakistan against Hair and all those racist pricks who claimed that we cheat. But still if Inzi misses Champions Trophy and ICC is not calling any investigation against Hair, than I would see the outcome of this drama as Inzi getting punished and missing an important tournament towards the end of his career and right before World Cup and Hair escaping without any punishment. So I am not entirely satisfied:hoonh:
