Re: Internet Explorer hijacked
FF, that means it did not find any corrupt files on your system. Now lets go ahead and try method II in that article.
Start->Run->type "regedit" without the qoutes.
Slect Edit then Find. Copy and paste this {89820200-ECBD-11cf-8B85-00AA005B4383} in the Find what box. Yes all of it with the brackets.
Once it finds the key. Right Click in the right hand pane. You will have option of new, left click on new and then select DWORD Value. It will create "New Value #1". Right Click this New Value #1 and select Rename. Rename this value to IsInstalled. After renaming the value, double click it and make sure that value data is 0. Close the registry. Now try to reinstall IE 6 SP1.
Send me the bill ...make sure you include a return address envelope and a phone number I can reach you at Via PM.
Re: Internet Explorer hijacked
ok so far so good. Good job.
Now when I try to reinstall IE 6 which I got from micrsosoft.com it says i already have a higher version of IE on my machine and the install cannot go thru. I checked the version of IE I had it is 6.0.2900.2180. Now what :(
Re: Internet Explorer hijacked
Trust u to leave me stranded! Like going home was really that important ![]()
Re: Internet Explorer hijacked
OK, FF its time to reinstall XPSP2. I will post a link on how to do that later this evening.
Yes going home was important because I had to pick up three litlle devils from there school.:)
Re: Internet Explorer hijacked
OK lets summerize here again what you did and correct me if I am wrong
1) System Restore
2) Spyware tools including HijackThis
3) Windows File checker
4) SP1 of IE6
So all of the above didn't work, right?
Re: Internet Explorer hijacked
yep.
Havent done a system restore though. Twice before when my pc died/got a virus I saved all my work files on one of those usb memory disc things and after i got the system restored I transfered everything back to the hard drive but I still have difficulty opening up those files afterwards. Its like this, usually i type in the clients name/file name/rep name and the file opens up but after this restore stuff I have to go thru the entire darn menu, get t the folder where all the files r transfered to after the restore, then I HAVE to know what the file number is cos thats how they r saved on the hard disc and thats the only way i can open up the darn files. Thats very inconvenient and everytime i have to go thru a manual log of all my files, try to remember what month the files originated in, then look up the file number and then open it up on my pc. Sucks doesn;t it!
Please dont give up on me guyss. Take it as a challenge. Fix my machine. Yes.
Re: Internet Explorer hijacked
^ You can try system restore but if the files are affected with virus and haven't been detected then you'll have the same problem again. Backup all your data onto a DVDR/CDR and reformat+install everything from scratch and refrain from copying all the suspected files on to HDD. Install a good AV not a pirated copy.
Re: Internet Explorer hijacked
whats AV? ![]()
Re: Internet Explorer hijacked
Oh I managed to get the calculator back :D I looked for it in my windows XP disc undeer additonal components. Another thing that is confusing me, when I insert the disc and the menu pops up itself asking me what I want to do, if I select install windows optional components a menu comes up with certain compnents. IE and Outlook express show up too but the size shows up as 0MB. Do u think the computer has ruined the disc now too?
Re: Internet Explorer hijacked
Ok one more thing, why can i not completely uninstall IE on my pc? Everytime I try to reinstall IE it detects a newer darned version and quits. And why is that newer darned vesion not available online for download. Computers suck.
Re: Internet Explorer hijacked
Where are u installing that IE from ? Gimme the exact link. You have SP2 i assume?
Re: Internet Explorer hijacked
I had downloaded it from micrsoft.com, saved it to my desktop and when i run install it doesnt do it. Oh I think ive been doing SP1 from the internet. I dont see SP2 there.
Re: Internet Explorer hijacked

Re: Internet Explorer hijacked

Re: Internet Explorer hijacked
OK i must have missed the posts. You dont see IE under the Add/Remove in control panel?
Re: Internet Explorer hijacked
nope. I searched for it on the hard drive and it shows up in two places out of which one is the start menu which we can ignore since its just a link and the second is folder under program files with the following sub menu
connection wizard
Plugins
signup
HMMAPI.DLL
iedw
and last is an icon for IE.
I tried deleting the whole folder but it won;t let me.
Re: Internet Explorer hijacked
