Re: Internet Explorer hijacked

in your very first post u mentioned that u un-installed it. Tell me how did you un-install it back then? And why did u un-install it? Was it because of some unwanted ad-on/search engine that got attached to your IE?

Re: Internet Explorer hijacked

FF, Hello…like going to lunch was that important…

See if 5Abi and I will help you again :hoonh:

Re: Internet Explorer hijacked

dont know. ANy way I can find out?

you had asked who 'we' is well its my boss's son who eventually manages to fix stuff but since he is getting married tomorrow i think my IE is the last of his priorites :(

U spoke too soon Kaleem, I am right here :D I have to keep going to another station for work sites. I decided to get some work done today so I may be away from my computer. Like work is really that important....yeah say it.

Re: Internet Explorer hijacked

5abi the doolha bhai uninstalled it, dunno how he did it but the computer can still somehow see it...somewhere.

Re: Internet Explorer hijacked

OK on your Firefox, click

Tools>Options>General>Connection Settings and tell me which one of the three buttons on top is clicked. And if any of the numbers are filled below it. DONT CHANGE ANYTHING. Click cancel afterwards.

Re: Internet Explorer hijacked

Direct connection tot he internet. 1st.

Re: Internet Explorer hijacked

:/ no proxies then

... thinking

It was prolly not un-installed properly. Some .dll files could be missing or corrupt or both.

PS: in the meantime SAVE all your work related data/emails etc on CDs or whatever it is that you use.

Re: Internet Explorer hijacked

:frowning: i’ll never be able to open them the quick way.

:crying:

Re: Internet Explorer hijacked

FF, it can see it because dang Micro$oft has it integrated into the OS. I am almost positive that you will have to reinstall XPSP2 to get it back working properly.....it is probably a lengthy procedure...

Re: Internet Explorer hijacked

I think your soon to be qurbani ka baqra forgot to read this from MS before trying in vain toremove IE:
By default, Internet Explorer 6 is preinstalled in all versions of Windows XP and cannot be removed. To provide computer manufacturers more flexibility in configuring desktop versions of Windows XP, Microsoft has made it possible for OEMs, administrators, and users to remove user access to Internet Explorer while leaving the Internet Explorer code intact and fully functional to make sure the functionality of programs and operating system functions that rely on it. For example, Windows XP supports an "IEAccess=off" switch in the Unattend.txt file, and Internet Explorer has been added to the Add/Remove Windows Components section of the Add/Remove Programs tool in Control Panel. This does not reinstall Internet Explorer.
Your only recourse at this point is system restore like Genius said or reinstall Windows XP.

Re: Internet Explorer hijacked

ye i will have to. I even tried a system restore now and even that didnt work.

Re: Internet Explorer hijacked

hahaa...really enjoyed reading the thread...yeah i know i'm bored...just killing some time :~D

Re: Internet Explorer hijacked

hey arent u local? Yesss I know u r. Thats it, tell me ur dropping by on monday to fix it.

Re: Internet Explorer hijacked

^ I told you earlier if Spy sweeper doesn't help then nothing else will. As far as IE there is no going back or forward. You remove the BLUE E buy going to add and remove program and then to windows component (checking the option will bring the icon back) and that is all it does. Unfortunately unlike IE5 or 5.5 you don't even have the repair option either.

Well, we can’t waste further time on permanently unfixable issue best thing would be for you to get a new HDD and then install everything from scratch, presuming it is not your machine.

AV=Aunty Why Russ

Re: Internet Explorer hijacked

:hehe: Im actually not too bad at figuring out these abbreviations. Like just 10 mins ago I realised HDD is hard drive disc, or is it???

Ok one more thing i think i should let u guys know…i was kidding about my IE :mocking:

no no no, seriously i wasn;t. The above was kidding. Ok so when i got this new computer which was only a couple of months ago ( i have the highest computer ruining record in the office) the guy split up the harddrive in to a c and e. If I transfer everything to E will that do it? And then reinstall God forsaken XP?

Re: Internet Explorer hijacked

^ I would not recommend you take the risk of leaving data on different partition of the same HDD and go on the rampage of installing XP. Once you selected the fresh install it will wipe out all the partitions and you will end up loosing all the data. If you are not familiar with how to manage partitions or custom install XP then leave it for an expert to do the same... or else come to Toronto and will help ya out.
