we uninstalled it and tried reinstalling it but it still doesn;t work. Can’t get update it cos u need to be on IE to update it. Dunno what to do. Any ideas?

after you reinstalled IE....does it work? If it does, can you get to MS update site? if not post the error message here

No IE doesnt work even after reinstalling it. I went to the micrsoft website and they offer a svc pack for IE6, when i try to install it it says my computer already has a newer version of IE so installation cannot go thru.
In addition to that my litle calculator under accessories doesn;t work either, i hate not having that at my fingertips and the icon for my outlook express takes me to internt options instead of email.

Did you reboot after you uninstalled IE?
When you say calculator does not work…What is the error message?
Is this the URL you are trying to download the IE 6 SP1 from?

Yep that is the website i was at. I reboot pretty much daily. I do not remember the msg I got when I tried to access the calculator thru my start menu. I deleted it from the start menu and tried looking for it under accessories where it always was but its not there either :(

Go here and install ad-aware and run a deep scan and remove all the junk it finds

^ when I had similar problem of hijack I used ad-aware and it did a great job. But if I remember right, I had to download one more program (don't remember name) that I got by googling. What I did was do 'Ctl-Al-del the task list. I looked for programs that look suspicious and googled on each of their names - one of the searches came up as some nasty sounding virus or worm or monster or boot ..

Install and update definitions first
then click on SWEEP and START
If this program can't help you then nothing else will be helpful either

if you have Microsoft AntiSpyware, try updating the spyware definitions and then make sure you run that in safe mode.
FF, have you tried system restore...
Type in
%systemroot%\system32\restore\rstrui.exe
to get to system restore and go back to the point in time when it was working fine.

I have microsfot anitspyware which i run diligently every day. it caught a few things which i removed but now it come out clean. i also got hijackthis whihc showed some suspicious files that we deleted.
Should i do this system restore thing? will that get rid of all the stuff i installed/downloaded and files created after this happened?

Anyway, let me make that article I posted simple for you. You can thank me later.
Open a Comamnd prompt. Click Start, then Run and type in "cmd" without the quotes.
Type thsi command in "sfc/scannow" without the quotes. Make sure you have Windows XP CD handy or access to the I386 folder of the CD. This will help you identify the missing or crrupted files.
Post the results here and we can go from there.

Wait.... look on you hard drive if you have a folder named I386? If you do, you may not need the CD. The key word is MAY. To be safe get the CD.
