Re: Inferiority Complex
OK fine, we’ll order you some. Give me your credit card tonite. ![]()
Inspired by Aisha's 'Complex' thread. Do you think that folks who constantly talk about how much money they have and how they buy fancy expensive things are doing it because deep down they are trying to over compensating for some sort of inferiority complex or perceived weakness or are they just showing off?
Money, well you can never have enough of it
Ahooo. All money belongs to ghareeb until a single ghareeb is on this earth.
You may becaome ghareeb its your choice.
but quran also say.
Upper wala hath behtar hai neechay walay haath say.
ShiningStar, please provide actual verse numbers when you talk about things being in the Quran, all to often people make nonsense up and say it's in the Quran, so until you can provide the verses, please refrain from questioning other peoples' faith, thanks.
WOW, I didn't quite expect this response, to be honest, I was just trying to post a trite, ghisa pita thread like people have been doing lately in Life, :D, I guess it was worth discussing after all.
My understanding about spending is that God DOES say in the Quran to go seek the bounties of this world:
[30:46] Among His proofs is that He sends the winds with good omen, to shower you with His mercy, and to allow the ships to run in the sea in accordance with His rules, and for you to seek His bounties (through commerce), that you may be appreciative.
[16:14] And He committed the sea to serve you; you eat from it tender meat, and extract jewelry which you wear. And you see the ships roaming it for your commercial benefits, as you seek His bounties, that you may be appreciative.
So God DOES expect you to seek his bounties but we should also seek knowledge and wisdom, which are greater bounties than anything material. God also goes on to say that when you give to the needy, give from what YOU would want for yourself, not only things that you don't care for or dislike.
[2:267] O you who believe, you shall give to charity from the good things you earn, and from what we have produced for you from the earth. Do not pick out the bad therein to give away, when you yourselves do not accept it unless your eyes are closed. You should know that GOD is Rich, Praiseworthy.
I understand what Hareem means about designer things but my thoughts take a little bit of a different path, I feel that if you can afford a $500 Coach purse, then you can also afford to give $500 to charity as mentioned in the above verse, give from the good things you earn. I feel that if people are wealthy and spend on extravagant things, that's fine, as long as they don't forget their charitable responsibilities to their families, friends, neighbors and the traveling wanderer. Great wealth is a source of test for us, God wants to see (of course He knows how we will react, it's all about free will) how we deal with our wealth, do we hoard or do we spend on ourselves and on charity?
Solomon was given a kingship never attained by anyone else, he had more wealth than today's "richest people in the world". He gave to charity, he spent wisely, and he was a great messenger. Qaroon on the other hand, had similar wealth, he hoarded it, nothing good comes from hoarding.

^ What brilliant answers! I loved how you said 'tv me suna tha'! I also demand you ask him what religion he is, like you asked me!

I think it's a hadith "ooper wala haath neechay walay haath say behtar hai"
Means giving is better than taking or begging (Allah knows best)
Kabhi apni aik designer ki cheez khareednay kay bajaay us paisay ko kisi waqai haqdar aur ghareeb per apnay hathon say kharch kar kay daikhain aap ko kitni khushi milti hai. Itni khushi aap ko pooray maheenay mehngi cheez ko istamaal kar kay khushi naheen milay gi jitni aik lamhay main milay gi jitni kisi zaroorat mund ki madad kar kay milay gi.
Well I buy designer stuff at times and then pay sadqa on it, so I dont feel bad about it. But the point is that, if you're working hard enough for yourself and its not your father/son/husband's money then MAYBE you can spend a lil bit of it on yourself. But at the same time, make sure you're donating some money here and there. I mean I would totally feel guilty spending a $1000 on a LV handbag, unless I spend the same amount in charity.
Also, I dont think we can label ppl here as shaitan k siblings just cuz they buy designer stuff. If they can fulfill their desires within the parameters/limits of modesty and still be generous with the not-so-privileged ones. Then what's the harm!

Okay.....people who always buy designer stuff aren't shaitan kay bhai. But then who is?
Who am I to judge? There so many buraieeess in today's world..I would rather worry about those than designer stuff. really.
Re: Inferiority Complex
^but of course..!! its all relative...! sin..goodness...beauty...etc.....

ShiningStar, maiN aap kay liyay Urdu maiN likhta hooN. TV pe suni hui baat ko sab kay saamne, baghair khud paDhe, likhna, bahaut hi nalaik harkat hai. Yeh kehna ke jo suna hai likh dooN gi chahe sahi ho ya ghalat, ye jahalat hai.
Agar aap waqai jaanna chahti haiN kai ke koi suni huwi baat sach hai ya ghalat, aap zaroor poochiyay logoN say, magar aisay tashan sai, baghair sochay samjhe, ye kehna ke jo bhi aap ne likha hai woh Quran maiN hai, ye gunah hai. Quran maiN likha hai ke jo apni taraf se kuch bana bujha ke kehday ta hai aur phir uper say kehta hai ke yeh Quran mein hai, woh jahannumi hai.
Ainda, bajay is kay ki kuch kehna aur bolna kay yeh Quran meiN hai, aap likhay zaroor, magar agar aap ne khud, apni aankhoN say nahi paDha, aap yeh har giz mat keheiN ke yeh Quran meiN hai.
^but of course..!! its all relative...! sin..goodness...beauty...etc.....
absolutely. I wouldn't deny that. But all am saying is that if one person prays regularly, reads Quran, fasts, is obedient to his/her parents, does charity work etc, but on top of that also buys designer stuff here and there (that too modestly) should not be labeled as shaitan k siblings.
Cmon, we humans should not be so hard on each other and conceited, if God is so forgiving.
Re: Inferiority Complex
thats right! we are so quick to point fingers..and label each other as 'shaitan k siblings' (lol)...
things that should not be overlooked are usually regarded as 'oh sab kar re hain'.....
i think if one has a habit of buying designer stuff....and showing it off on a regular basis.....it can be very annoying...
if you are doing it for your own satisfaction...you dont need to show it off...
i dont think buying is all hell...its the showing off part that is disliked by Allah.
oh yes. I totally agree with you. We should not treat these things as a sign of superiority or as a tool to put others down.
Who am I to judge? There so many buraieeess in today's world..I would rather worry about those than designer stuff. really.
I didn't say buying designer stuff alone is a buraee, did I? There must be some explanation for the word spendthrift...and why a spendthrift is called satan's brother in Qur'an?
