I think...SL made surprisingly drastic change in their team for the final to enhance batting line-up against India...while at the same time...weakening their bowling line-up excluding Mendis & Herath...these two could have taken out the key Indian batsmen...Dilshan & Muralitharan should have been given 10 overs each to curb the India RR...

4 spinners in the team...Muralitharan, Dilshan, Herath, Mendis (40 overs)...enough to curb the runrate and possibility of taking wickets...

Not just batting but chasing esp. is Pakistan's biggest problem. Had Sri Lanka batted first in that game (against Pakistan), it w'd have been a different ball game altogether. They would have made 260-280 and we would have lost the game for sure. Mind you they (266) still almost beat us chasing a formidable 277. So Sri Lanka still the better team than Pakistan for me.

Chasing anything over 270 is never easy esp. in the ultimate pressure game, a world cup final and india got there comfortably in the end winning by 6 wickets and despite the early loss of Sehwag and Sachin. Not many teams can do that

You are presenting a hypothetical situation. Pakistan have been notorious chasers but they have improved a lot. (chasing against Saffies, NZL, England). And by the same token, India may well have struggled badly chasing against a more potent attack in pakistan than they did against mediocre SL and Australians attacks.

Not in this world cup though. Against Australia we made a real meal (read mess) of a small target of 176. Had we been chasing 220-230 runs, who knows what might have happened. Infact in the two games in this cup where we were required to chase 250+ we fell well short. Against India we kept losing wickets at regular intervals owing to poor shot selection and lack of mental concentration and against NZ, ok 302 was probably just a bit too much to chase but we did not even try to make a decent fist of things and folded for a disappointing 192. A more disciplined team like India and Sri Lanka would have done better in those circumstances

I never liked IPL though…I guess it would mean more to you guys in India than to others around the world coz you are playing state against state. Or maybe its just me…I just like big tournaments like this..and ofcoz the T20s..those are always entertaining…can’t stand test matches :yawn:

I will. btw did you miss the 2007 T20 world cup we won with a whiskar? man that was the best world cup we ever won.
Any ways for most of the big tournaments KK will keep you updated but watch out for IPL, it starts in less than a week.
