Mumbai:In the never-ending reports of brutality towards girls and women in the country, three minor sisters between the ages of six and 11 were raped and murdered before their bodies were dumped in a village well in the Bhandara district of north-eastern Maharashtra.
Though the police initially registered a case of accidental death, a postmortem conducted on Monday at Bhandara confirmed sexual abuse and murder, police said. The case has now been registered under sections 376, 302 and 201 of the Indian Penal Code against unidentified persons.
The girls, Tanuja Borkar, 11, her sisters Prachi, 9, and Priya, 6, had gone missing from their village Murmadi in Lakhni block on February 14. On February 16, their school bags and footwear were found near the well in which their bodies were dumped.
The democratic system is not protecting the women of india. bollywood and entertainment industry keep degrading the woman each film trying to push boundaries even further. These industries encourage the women to be a play thing for the man. Society degrading its values it’s no surprise when you read the times of india reporting rape increasing 792% over past 40 years.
This disgusting crime on young girls is yet another scar on India which claims to be worlds biggest democracy yet cannot even protect its most vulnerable.

I’m not sure I understand how this is an indictment against democracy. What role did the system of governance play in this crime? How did it contribute towards it? What system of governance would have prevented this?

Sad news .. huge societal issue!
but I am not sure what exactly we will gain by posting threads on individual sex cases in india.... we will need millions of threads!
everyone knows that the sex exploitation of women and kids is a pronounced phenomenon in india but it exists in Pakistan with the exact same ferocity if not more ... raping young kids in mosques by molvis for example is a very common practice in pakistan ... it is a huge social problem and no one talks abt it as it is considered taboo.....
and we all know how our women are treated in villages/rural areas or even in urban areas..... so many dreadful rape cases ...and guess what, we don't have bolloywood in Pakistan and we did not have democracy for over 35 years!!! so deducing baseless conclusions to add value to your viewpoint does not mean anything.....
all i am trying to say that if intention is to malign india by posting such news ... I am afraid it won't serve the purpose because we have the exact same problem in our society .... do you want indian posters to google and start posting similar news abt Pakistan?
let me tell you what is a better way of embarrassing your neighbors, if you really want to ... show a track record where women and kids rape cases are dropped by 90% in 3 years ... now that wud be sweet ...
and trust me .. i wud have told the exact same thing to an Indian poster if he was posting similar posts

terrible. incidents like these are just symptoms of a society that doesn't have much respect or value for its women. you can put the perps on death row but a lot more needs to change than just cops and judiciary.

If the worlds population is 7 billion, and India population is more than one billion, then it is clear that there will be a higher proportion of rapes in India compared to other countries.
Like mentioned already, how is to democracy blame? These crimes happen in Islamic countries or communist countries too. Political point scoring by exploiting these victims is a horrid thing.

Bollywood films, though not directly or entirely at fault, do contribute to the "sexualization" of society.
i disagree ....
we dont teach our kids to respect women from very beginning .... Bollywood or no Bollywood, subcontinental societies are male dominated and think of women as sexual pleasure tools and lesser creature...pakistan has no Bollywood....actually we have no movie industry for last 30 years....and do u really think rape rates and sexual frustration have gone down in Pak because of that?

The government and its system allows the sexualisation of society it permits the continual 24 hour bollywood/ advertising/ entertainment industry to degrade the woman. the image of scantly clad women is pumped into the heads of people non stop just turn on the TV open a magazine walk down the street its in your face you cannot escape it.
the women is devalued and shown as easy is it any wonder 792% increase of rape in india is it any wonder women scared to travel in streets of delhi?
It is the system it has failed to protect women
who or what else is to blame if it is not the system that allowed this tense environment where the women are attacked and abused in such a terrible way?

its very important to highlight these cases of absolutely horrific abuse because these lives matter. raising awareness is the first step towards change. we should bring these issues to light whether they happen in Pakistan or india or wherever
