India spills more water into Sutlej River. Hundreds of acres of agricultural land near Atar Singh Wala in district Qasoor flooded while dozens more villages are feared inundated.
People across the river start evacuation. District administration has established relief camps foreseeing the aftereffects of flood.
DCO Qasoor Malik Jahanzeb Awan, DOR Amir Ejaz and DDOR Shuja Qutab Bhatti visited the relief camp along with officers of District administration and Finance Institute to check the arrangements.

**Sunday, August 22nd, 2010. Flood warning has been issued here to five drainages of of River Ravi catchment areas in wake of possible flood due to release of water in river Ravi by India here on Saturday.
As per details, India has release 18000-cusec water in river Ravi that could cause flood in five drainages of Narowal and Shaker Garh.
Metrological department had predicted water level in river Ravi would remain low during next 24 hours but after release of water by India low-level flood has hit drainage Bhutsen and Basantar of River Ravi catchment area.
At least 168 villages along river Ravi have been evacuated in wake of possible flood while district administration has been red alerted in Narowal and Sialkot. The flood center in Lahore has given prior high flood warning in drainage located in Shakar Garh.
More four drainages Basantar, Jhajri, Oojh and Khattar could be affected by the possible flood.

We don't release water- just for fun. There are only three points on the Sutlej at which water can be stored/released: those are the Bhakra Nangal dam adjacent to the border between Punjab and Himachal Pradesh, the Chamera dam in the Chamba disctrict of Himachal Pradesh, and the Nathpa dam in the Kinnaur and Shimla districts of Himachal Pradesh. Of these, the last two are way up the riparian zone. The only one of consequence, the one closest to Pakistan at the border, is the Bhakra Nangal dam. And this has dozens of villages downstream, not to mention the industrial city of Ludhiana. You'd think we'd jeopardize our people and cities to spite you?
Yesterday, the Bhakra Beas Management Board (BBMB) had to release, which I suppose is what you're referring to, 38,500 cusecs of water into the Sutlej river, because the water level had risen alarmingly to 1673.16 feet, owing to the heavy downpour in catchment areas of the Himachal Pradesh. But that was a necessary step, for if the dam has been breached, the dyke had been broken, the threat in terms of flooding, the destruction to people and livestock would have increased exponentially. Besides, the release has raised the sceptre of our own flooding 12 villages in the Anandpur Sahib region.
There are some people in Pakistan who are comment on the issue without an accurate knowledge of how the Indus Water Treaty works or of riparian adjustments along the region.
Every dam has a capacity to hold water. It can only hold a certain amount of pressure. If the capacity is breached in can lead to a catastrophic situation. It would destroy everything in its path. Therefore, little portion of water is left on regular intervals to reduce the chances of that happening during heavy rains. If we increase the capacity to hold water Pakistan has an issue, but when we let go of the water to safeguard our cities Pakistan is complaining again. Blame your ministers for not co-operating with Indian government on these issues.

And the recent floods are because of which river....? Ministries from both the countries need to start working together for the betterment of the region. It is because of close minded people like you and many on my side as well that our two countries will always be in the dark ages. Thousand of people are dying as we speak because of your mentality.
