Overall Punjab (India+Pakistan) got 5 rivers. If I'm not mistaken Indian Punjab still have these 5 rivers (i.e. 5 rivers still flow in Indian territory)
Do you know if there is any relation between this and the presence of five rivers or if it had any influence on the religion?
I think @the kaur may be able to shed some light on this.

No, the credit of 5 k’s goes to hazrat aala aurangzeb, who killed one of the gurus, and turned a whole sikh nation as a jaani dushman of Muslims. The top guru of that time commanded that a real khalsa will always wear the five K’s till a single Muslim is still alive in India.

How come? Any source about Guru ordering that?
If Sikhs were that Anti-Muslim, how come they retain poetry of Muslim poets in their Garanth?
Retaining poetry might be part of punjabi culture, also could be from guru nanak times. 5 k’s entered during the time of 10th guru who created the order of Khalsa.
there is a collection of du'aas i think which is called "Punjatan Paak"?
The concept of Punjtan Pak is Persian (I think so). Its not dua, its 5 personalities.. the prophet (SAW), Hazrat Ali (RA), Hazrat Fatima (RA), Hazrat Hassan (RA) and Hazrat Hussain (RA).

thank you for the info...
oh i see...mujhe to ilm nahiiN thaa...paak hastiyaaN, alHamdolillah.
mujhe kuchh yaad paRtaa hai k is naam se ek booklet thii jis meN shaayad du'aayeN darj thiiN yaa Punjatan Paak ke naam se kuchh qisse, kahaaniyaaN thiiN. wallaho aalam bissawaab.
Garanth is just not a common poetry book. Its holy scripture. Apart from that, enmity between Sikh and Muslims (among masses) was never severe from Aurnagzeb’s time till partition. There were wars for crown and rule, but still there were some good terms in between the communities that encouraged Mr Jinah to offer them to be part of Pakistan.
This is the history behind adapting 5 ks, though it says that it was adapted after Aurangzeb’s oppression, but it doesn’t say that Guru ordered or advocated any anti-Muslim sentiments.

There is this punj surah at our home. I never checked which surah it has. probably Surah Yaseen, Surah e Mulk, Surah e Rahman might be there.
Then there is probably 5 bibiyon ki kahani (though I remember its 10 bibiyon ki Kahani). Punch kaniya is also popular ladies from Mahabaharat and Ramayan and pouplar in Hinsuism.

I think fight with mughals (Aurangzeb) is being considered here as fight with Islam as theology which is incorrect. Guru Gobind Singh intiated Khlasa but that was never intended against Islam.
Punj Pyare were the first five soldiers of Khalsa, if I remember right, they were from Lahore, Amritsar, Patna, Nanded and Bidar
Indus has been considered as somewhat sea (like the terminology Sindh Saagar.. as also referred by Aitzaz Ahsan). 5 rivers refers to tributaries of Indus.
The name of the region is a compound of two Persian words [SUP][6]](Punjab - Wikipedia)[/SUP] and was introduced to the region by the Turkic Muslim conquerors of India and more formally popularized during the Mughal empire. Punjab literally means “(The Land of) Five Waters” referring to the following rivers: the Jhelum, Chenab, Ravi, Sutlej, and Beas.[SUP][7]](Punjab - Wikipedia)[/SUP] All are tributaries of the Indus River, the Jhelum being the largest.
