Importance of '5' in Punjab's culture

Re: Importance of ‘5’ in Punjab’s culture

yes they have different heads. It would be strange if this river would have been part of Punjab though as like even this article mentions that it spans 470 Kms and joins satluj in Punjab. Indus makes more sense as compared to Beas.

Re: Importance of '5' in Punjab's culture

I think head overs of all these rivers are somewhere in Himalyas / Kashmir, so all these rivers including Indus have to travel to reach Punjab's territory.

Re: Importance of ‘5’ in Punjab’s culture

Hence Kashmir being the shahrag :hbk:

Panj peer - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Panj Peer include Laal Shabzad of Sehwan, Sindh.

Except for Baba Farid and Bahaudin Zakariya, 3 out of 5 saints were not to native to Punjab.

Re: Importance of ‘5’ in Punjab’s culture

but all rivers don’t originate from Kashmir. :hehe:

Re: Importance of ‘5’ in Punjab’s culture

Yes I think some come from Tibet

Re: Importance of ‘5’ in Punjab’s culture

previously I think the distances didn’t matter. People had peers where ever.

Re: Importance of '5' in Punjab's culture

previously? now you think differently? Zia's influence? :D

Re: Importance of ‘5’ in Punjab’s culture

There is Mansarovar Lake in Tibat, according to Hinduism, Indus, Ganga and only male river of hindu mythology Brahmaoutra originates from here

Re: Importance of ‘5’ in Punjab’s culture

male and female rivers? nadi to female hi hoti hai.. darya male hota hai. :hmmm:

Re: Importance of '5' in Punjab's culture

Maybe I'm understanding incorrectly, but in Hindu mythology, rivers are considered to have gender? Excuse my ignorance (and the dumb question I'm going to ask), but based on what are rivers considered male/female in the mythology?

Re: Importance of '5' in Punjab's culture

I don't have any peer. :( zia's ideology lives on.

Re: Importance of '5' in Punjab's culture

be-peera was/ is just like a negative comment for a person in Sindh.

Re: Importance of '5' in Punjab's culture

all rivers are females...famous song about Ganga [Ganges] river:

Ganga merii maaN kaa naam, baap kaa naam Himaala
[Ganges is my mother, Himalya is my father]

there was a controversy when this song was released. Hindus demonstrated against the song charging the lyric writer of 'incest' because Ganges originate from Gangotri in the Himalya range and this it's Himalya's daughter, not wife.

the Kaur is right, the river Brahmputra [son of Brahma] is the ONLY river that is considered a male.

Re: Importance of '5' in Punjab's culture

Rivers were considered to be the source of life, hence female, Brahmaputra is called son of brahma, once in assam I saw it flowing at great pace, my brother remarked it flows that fast because it is male :D

Re: Importance of '5' in Punjab's culture

What is the difference between Nadi and Darya? Do they use word 'darya' for rivers in Hindi?

Re: Importance of '5' in Punjab's culture

nadi is Hindi for daryaa...daryaa is a Faarsii word while nadi/naddi is a Hindi word.

naddi naare na jaao, Shyaam, baiNyaaN paRuuN! ;)

I did not say fight with Islam. I said fight with Muslims of India. Guru Gobind Singh’s father was killed by Aurangzeb (I said son in my first post which was not correct) because he refused/resisted the forceful conversion of Sikhs to Islam by Aurangzeb. Khalsa mindset was initiated as an avenge.

Punj Pyare were the first five martyrs, not soldiers. They were sacrificed by Guru Gobind himself, after they presented themselves to him to take their life as a sign of ultimate loyalty.

Re: Importance of '5' in Punjab's culture

Sacrificed means?

I thought there was some bowl, in which they put their blood (probably by cutting their hands).
