Re: if you want fairer skin and rid acne scars, get this!

is it?? hmm there are two available.......one is from india and the other made in pakistan........ which one did u get?? and girls i heard fair n lovely contains steroids too so be careful

and i have another remedy to get rid of scars.......

put honey on the problem areas and leave for an hr.......repeat this twice a day.......that really helps :)
its better to keep it overnight and cover it up with a bandage so that it doesnot spoil your bed sheets and clothes

Dermatologists claim that there is no such thing as a fairness cream, certainly not without using skin-bleaching agents such as hydroquinone, steroids, mercury salts, and a number of other ingredients including bismuth subnitrate, hydrogen peroxide, magnesium peroxide and zinc peroxide.

All of these ingredients, says Prof ABM Faroque, Chair, Department of Pharmaceutical Technology, University of Dhaka, can cause, among more serious health hazards, nephrotoxicity, mercury toxicity and serious allergic reactions. Nephrotoxicity refers to irritation to nephrons in the kidney, causing kidney damage. Mercury toxicity includes effects like metallic taste, increased thirst, abdominal pain, bloody diarrhoea, nephritis, decreased flow of urine, colitis or constipation, tremors, anaemia, and skin problems. Mercury has adverse effects on the developing brain of a foetus.

Experts like Prof Faroque say, “We have nothing against Fair and Lovely. We simply want to know what is used in it. It is our right as consumers to know what we are buying and using.” The ingredients as stated in Fair and Lovely packages cannot make a person fair, but the advertisements for the creams and lotions, as well as the packages themselves, claim that it is a fairness cream, making people several shades lighter in four to six weeks. Says Professor Faruque “If the manufacturers have invented a formula which brings fairness without the use of such agents, we would be very interested to know about it. Unilever’s patent will be protected, but it is their duty to let their consumers know what they are using.”

Re: if you want fairer skin and rid acne scars, get this!

fair and lovely never helps.. it makes my skin more oily...

Use papaya soap, it helps in reducing the scars and controls acne, the downside is that its a bit drying..

Re: if you want fairer skin and rid acne scars, get this!

Fair and Lovely DID INDEED make my skin fairer. The thick gloopy cream certainly left behind a chalky white layer on my face. I looked like someone who dusted my face off with flour. At the time I was in my mid-teens........and my cousin mockingly asked me what I had done to become so gori. Ouch....the remark stung.

Apart from making me fantastically fair...........Fair and Lovely........also dried out my skin and irritated it. It was a waste of money and time.

Sometimes we think we're getting results from trying out a particular cosmetic........when in reality the skin could have cleared up because the person is using other more effective products........OR.........the individual is doing some of the basics (sleeping, reducing stress, hydration, good diet, proper cleaning) that could have cleared up the skin.

Even certain foods we eat have antibacterial properties that can flush out acne-causing bacteria from our systems.

Based on my own negative experience with F n L.........I wouldn't use it to treat any skin problems.

Re: if you want fairer skin and rid acne scars, get this!

its some new anti marks cream. so far its helped and it contains nothing harmful, you can get the ingredients on the website, and if you read its reviews( not on its website but other sites) they are fairly good.....

Re: if you want fairer skin and rid acne scars, get this!

RV, so it worked on you but it just made your skin drier?

ditto. I like the Likas brand (watch out for the original one, with the rainbow colored seal).

Re: if you want fairer skin and rid acne scars, get this!

Nadz, I'm curious to know why you didn't try Mederma for your scars? It has got very good reviews and at least you'd know what the ingredients are.

where can you get it?

Re: if you want fairer skin and rid acne scars, get this!

mederma is quite expensive as compared to fair and lovely

plus mederma is more useful for SCARS like the real ones not the ones that we call blemishes and the brown left marks etc

Re: if you want fairer skin and rid acne scars, get this!

With time fair n lovely n all many other brands r switching to more natural products. the ingredients i read so far says it has ayuverdic elements(if its from india)
The main ingredients of the product are Bisvatulasi, Neem, Manjistha, Yastimadhu, Nyagropadha, Chandana, Brahmi and Ghrit Kumari. All these reduce dark spots left from pimples, lighten pigmentation marks, reduce dark circles and lessen stretch marks.

most of these i'm unfamiliar with but if Nadz is using this one from India then i guess there's no harm in trying n getting good effects. But Nadz always research well b4 buying any product. ur face is a precious thing n nothing to experiment with. As for reviews many of these ppl just use products one or two times n giv reviews. look for ppl who test something for 6 months- 1 yr n are still satisfied.

Gina doctors/derms r not always right n not every doc is as informed as the other. hydroquinone is though controversial but the cancerous effects r not proven on humans so far just some lab rats got them but they were having other supplements too at same time so they got cancer coz of hyderoquinion alone is not proven.. Also more n more ppl r reporting in its favour. 4% hydroquinone n retinA 0.1 % is said to be very effcetive. i hav personally used cream with 1.25% hydroquinone n seen its results. it was natural glow , brightness n lighter skin , nothing forced white as RV experienced. but researches r still going on n ppl think though it works it doesn't giv stable results. Sine i didn't maintain after achieving that complexion i can never forget :) i went back to my original self
then there r so many natural herbs n fruit extracts poping up like licorice extract, arbutin, kojic oil, vitamin C , sepi white n some others. these giv slow effect as compared to hydroquinone n not very effective for dark skins who want drastic results but they do work. i'm yet to try these though. i'll be getting them n compound them on my own n if get good reults wil let all know.

Re: if you want fairer skin and rid acne scars, get this!

I will never forget what happened to me when I put FL on my skin...I was about 16 at the time.

I put it on and went to bed...I woke up itching and scratching my face...looked in the mirror and it was completely patchy and red all over. I thought I gotten a disease (Allah na karey), washed my face and begged Allah swt to make me normal again and I would be a good girl for the rest of my life.

Girls, lets try and appreciate what we've got.

Mabrook, derms will suggest something that's suitable for u're skin-type, composition, pore size etc..and they'll suggest a products after examining u're skin. IF HQ is needed..only then is it prescribed. Like other creams and their harmful effects, I pointed out the side-effects of fair & lovely too.. I won't hold-back anyone from trying it out and discovering for themselves.

It's my job to warn, it's upto them to use such creams or stay away from them :)

No, Marwah. It didn't do anything for me. The cream made me "fair" in the sense that it didn't absorb into my skin and left beyond a chalky white layer. That's about as much "fairness" I got. And it dried me out. I remember it stung my face as well. I was around 15 or so when I first tried it. Now, I'm happy with skin color.

I haven't tried the anti marks one that Nadz is recommending......but I wouldn't advise using the original one at all.

Re: if you want fairer skin and rid acne scars, get this!

i don't want to use any fairness cream on my face, i'm happy with my skin color. i just want to get rid of the darkness i have on my fingers. the skin right under my nails is a little dark, i don't know why. i take care of my hands, moisturize and what not. is there any way i can get rid of it?

i agree with Gina...its my personal experience that in early uni days all my friends were using fair and lovely and i being not a good fan of paki products thought to just give it a try..when i used it on my washed cleaned skin...i felt gr8..it left some white layer on my skin and i looked so fairer..but after sometime i got red marks and itching on my skin..and i thought its not for me...then later i switched to anti marks but no luck...so its still in my drawer but i dont use it..
Alhamd...i have good gr8 skin. and i am happy the way i am...!

Marwah, it sounds like skin discoloration or hyperpigmentation. It's common in desi people. I've had it on my cheek and Alhumdolillah it's gone now. The most effective way to get rid of it is to get a hydrqouinone cream from the dermatologist. Hydroquinone or HQ is an FDA approved chemical used for lightening skin. In commerical products, you will usually find a concentration of 2%. For a higher concentration, you'll have to get a prescription. In a few weeks, it'll fade away. Make sure that you apply sunscreen when using HQ products at least 30 minutes before going out.

You can try commerical products and natural ingredients which contain a bleaching effect (example: lemons, tomatoes, yogurt, etc)........but it will take longer. Your dermatologist can will prescribe treatments that penetrate the layers of your skin to correct the problem. People usually don't realize that their blemishes/spots/discolorations are made up of SEVERAL layers of skin.

Apply sunblock on your hands. Do you think maybe you're allergic to some soap, detergent, or cream you've been using?
