Re: ICC Super series. Rest of the world Squads named
I raed in a local daily that Reason there are so many South Africans in the squads as well as captains because the sponsors of this series is a south african company. If that is the case, then shame on selectors.
can anyone confirm this?
Re: ICC Super series. Rest of the world Squads named
By the way, I really hope they somehow include Shane Bond in place of Ntini as he is fit now. A bowling attack comprising of Shoaib Akhtar, Harmison, Bond, Flintoff and Murali will be devestating to say the least. :k:

ICC gives Tendulkar time to prove fitness
The International Cricket Council (ICC) has given Sachin Tendulkar till September 21 to prove his fitness for next month’s Super Series ties between Australia and the Rest of the World XI, according to Dave Richardson, ICC’s Manager of Cricket Operations.
Richardson told a teleconference today from Dubai at the announcement of the candidates for the various ICC awards for 2005, including the Cricketer of the Year that Tendulkar was keen to play in Australia against the hosts in the Super Series.
“He’s desperately trying to get fit for the Super Series in Australia. He has had a discussion on the matter with John Wright (coach of the Rest of the World XI). We have given him time till the 21st of this month to prove his fitness,” added Richardson.
“A few things could go against him. Lack of cricket is one. We hope he’s truthful to himself and if there’s any problem he will let us know so that we can name a replacement,” said the former South African wicketkeeper.
The master batsman has found a berth in both the ODI (in the best-of-three series) as well as the six-day one-off Test squad.
Tendulkar, who underwent a surgery to correct his tennis elbow injury in May, has skipped India’s tours to Sri Lanka and Zimbabwe as he was not confident his elbow would withstand the rigours of international cricket.

Re: ICC Super series. Rest of the world Squads named
According to DAILY JANG, ICC has contacted PCB regarding inzi's inclusion in the World XI squad for the super series. They have inquired the board about his availibility for the series since chances of Tendi regaining fitness before September 21st dealine are very minimal. According to the paper, inzi refused to comment on the news and said that he'll wait for an official announcement from ICC.
Any confirmation from some other source?
Re: ICC Super series. Rest of the world Squads named
GREAT IDEA!!! Bond is good enough to replace ANY of Ntini, Akhtar or Harmison.
Akhtar hasn’t done anything in ODI’s in past year and Harmison still seems harmless in ODI’s but Ntini should make way for Bond.
Bond MUST play!!!

Gibbs withdraws from World XI
Herschelle Gibbs has withdrawn from the World XI to take on Australia next month due to a knee injury. Gibbs was set to line-up alongside fellow South Africans, Jacques Kallis, Makhaya Ntini and Shaun Pollock for the matches in Melbourne and Sydney.
However, despite undergoing extensive treatment Gibbs has had to admit defeat in his race to be fit. The trouble initially occurred during the tour of West Indies in April and May and was then exacerbated during his stint with Lashings, the celebrity team based in England, during the summer.
Gibbs told News24: “I am withdrawing from the World XI side. I have just told the manager Goolam Rajah (who is also the South African manager) that I won’t be able to play. I have worked with the Western Province physio since my return from my Lashings duty, but I am still feeling pain. I have also gone for an MRI scan where it showed that I had damaged the cartilage behind my right knee cap.”

its likely that Michael Vaughan along with inzi will be included in the ODI squad. Inzi hopfully will make into the Test squad replacing Tendi.
Re: ICC Super series. Rest of the world Squads named
I REALLY REALLY want to see Inzi in the ODI team now because he was the only reason i was gonna go the Telstra DOME to watch it LIVE but how cool it would be if he is called into World XI and he DECLINES the offer.
Re: ICC Super series. Rest of the world Squads named
I would love to see Inzi Declining the offer :)
Re: ICC Super series. Rest of the world Squads named
Vaughan could face Aussies again
Michael Vaughan skippered England to glory against Australia
England captain Michael Vaughan could win a late call-up to the Rest of the World squad to take on Australia.
India star Sachin Tendulkar has a deadline of 21 September to declare his fitness to selector Sunil Gavaskar.
Tendulkar, 32, underwent surgery on his elbow in May, which ruled him out of tours to Sri Lanka and Zimbabwe.
And another batsman, Herschelle Gibbs, is also an injury doubt. Vaughan could be a Test replacement while Pakistan’s Inzamam-ul-Haq may gain a one-day spot.
An International Cricket Council spokesman told BBC Sport: "It’s right that there are concerns about Tendulkar’s fitness.
"The selectors have discussed potential replacements for him, for both the Test and one-day squads.
“I can’t confirm who those players are at the moment because we haven’t checked whether the players are available.”
Gibbs told News24 in South Africa he would withdraw from the side because of a knee injury.
He added: “I have gone for an MRI scan where it showed that I had damaged the cartilage behind my right knee cap.”
The Super Series consists of three one-dayers in Melbourne on 5, 7 and 9 October and a six-day Test starting 14 October in Sydney.
Vaughan has just captained England to Ashes glory against Australia and hit one century during the series.
But he was not in the best of form with the bat, averaging 32.60.
South Africa’s Graeme Smith will captain both the Test and one-day sides.
The Rest of the World XI will be coached by New Zealander John Wright.
England coach Duncan Fletcher said he was “disappointed” not to have been asked to do the job.
But there is some representation from home shores - Andrew Flintoff and Steve Harmison are in the Test squad, while Flintoff and Oval hero Kevin Pietersen feature in the one-day
Re: ICC Super series. Rest of the world Squads named
I believe Pollock was to captain the one-day side, not Smith?
Re: ICC Super series. Rest of the world Squads named
Pollock for one day
Smith for test
As per the orignal statement, not sure if it has been changesd
Re: ICC Super series. Rest of the world Squads named
Herschelle Gibbs is out of the squad due to injury
Re: ICC Super series. Rest of the world Squads named
Sachin is CONFIDENT to get FULL fitness.
Re: ICC Super series. Rest of the world Squads named
Obviously he won’t be saying infront of the whole world that he is not confident of regaining fitness:D . Bottom line is that the out of form tendi is currently not fit and he didn’t play any cricket in the past 2 months due to a problem which is troubling him for more than a year now. How is he going to prove his match fitness for a competitive 3 day ODI series and a 6 day test match.
I am sure that the selection committee will take a wise decision and will dump him to include the much deserving in form inzi who by the way has been nominated in 3 categories for the upcoming ICC awards. Did tendi get the nomination for any one of them? It will be a disgrace to see all the players who are nominated for the prestigious player of the year award playing at super series except inzi.
Re: ICC Super series. Rest of the world Squads named
Gibbs is out of this series FOR SURE, if Inzi doesn't get selected then it doesn't matter whether Sachin is fit or NOT bcoz Inzi should NOT accept the offer at any cost. Michael vaughan is a USELESS ODI player and there is no way he will be selcted.
Re: ICC Super series. Rest of the world Squads named
On September 1st, Inzi and Vaughan were named as stand bys in case tendi is unable to play the super series, so it does matter if he is unfit, because it will make way for both inzi and vaughan.

Re: ICC Super series. Rest of the world Squads named
I know it DOES fkhan2 but what if GIBBS pulls out ( i m sure he has ALREADY declared himself unfit), don't you think Inzi is an automatic choice since Gibbs was named for ODI's???
Re: ICC Super series. Rest of the world Squads named
What I don't understand, is that AFTER Inzi got snubbed in the initial selection WHY is PCB so desperate to be lapdogs and are tripping over themselves in a bid to get Inzi in as a replacement??
If they had even an ounce of dignity or self respect, they would simply refuse citing Inzi having other commitments. However, our board is notorious for being kicked around so I guess they have to live up to the expectation.
Re: ICC Super series. Rest of the world Squads named
Well we would think that he should be an automatic choice but ICC never announced who will be automatically included among the 2 stand bys ( inzi and vaughan), in case tendi pulls out.
I am wondering why they never announced a stand by along with inzi for the ODI’s? If there is no stand by, then yes inzi should be an automatic choice for ODI because Vaughan was never included in the preliminary ODI squad.
Gibbs was not in the test squad so a vacancy created by tendi will create a spot for one and ideally inzi should fill it out but they can alwas claim that inzi is getting a chance to play the 3 ODI so why not give Vaughsn a chance to play test?
