Well having checked the updated squads...i have to say Sri Lanka are extremely under represented...Sangakkara should have been the rest of the Worlds keeper in tests...he has been selected for the 1 dayers but he is a better test batsmen...McCullum simply isnt in his class...
Chaminda Vaas is one of the best left armers in world cricket and deserves his place over the inconsistent Makhaya Ntini...
N Zealnd as well have talented cricketers...fair enough they have bad records against the Aussies but players like Fleming should have at least made the squad...
Kaneria should have made the Test Squad as he is potentially a top leg spinner who proved himself to be very impressive against the Aussies...i would certainly have picked him over the aging Kumble...
Any how...the Squad is still a good one and this is my team for both tests and one dayers...doubt it will be the selctors choice but it would be mine...

its extremely disgusting to see that gibbs is in the ODI squad when he has done absolutely nothing in the last 2-3 years. 1-2 innings of substance does not make him eligible to be in the ODI squad.
its sad and shocking to see inzi exclusion. on what bases did they not include him in noth squads?

This is all rubbish...........the selectors cannot ignore Inzi's performance for last 12 months. He was better than most of the players picked in both the squads.
This is all bull s... he must have been picked for both the squads.
He performed better than Kevin, Gibbs, Sehwag and Tendulkar in past year highly biased selection.

Consider SA's performance before their form picked up during england one day series. They had lost 10 consecutive one dayers. It is a shame that for such high profile series, big name failures lkike Sachin and Gibbs wherehas true consistent leading performers like Inzi were ignored. oh well! I really hope Sachin isnt picked because has has done jack.
and they rightly say Inzi is under-rated.

What a farce!!!!!!! Shocking squads released by the selectors. They seem more concerned about political correctness rather than talent. How else you can excuse Shaun Pollock as ODI captain? He wasn't even a successful captain for his own country.
Other shockers: Gibbs, Vetorri, Boucher, Ntnini
Only player from South Africa who warrants a place is Kallis.
Inzi as usual has been underrated but I bet his average in recent year or so is higher than all the other so called superstars.

Shocking, dispicable, unfair, unjust, travesty of justice etc etc etc what is done is done.
Selectors were: Richard Hadlee, Mike Atherton, Clive Lloyd, Jonty Rhodes and Aravinda de Silva.
Even the selection committee is unrepresentative of cricketing realities, No Indians, no Pakistanis. What the F?? No wonder captaincy was given to goras. Brian Lara deserved to lead either the test side or one day squad, not only because he is one of the greatest players and wud command respect naturally unlike that cocky Smith, he is also the most senior player around.
Its good to see Shoaib Akhter in both sides (test & ODI), just goes to show how well he has recovered form and fitness. Feather in the cap for Shoaib, all his detractors can go and eat not a humble pie but their own words, including Mota Inzi (not selected) and Bob Woolmer.
Inzi (mota) was "axed" from the original squad alongwith Kumble and Brendon McCallum. No reason has been given except for how well balanced the two teams are. I guess, it was Inzi's poor fielding, fitness isues for six day matches and lack of communication skills that contributed to his dropping. It may even turnout that Mota demanded captaincy and refused to play if not made captain, just speculating. Iam disappointed, but frankly speaking it was a toss-up between Inzi and Lara, not an easy choice even for Paki selectors.

^ It is quite evident you dont like Inzi for some reason but on talent alone Inzi is the best choice of all. His recent captaincy and batting record speaks for itself. What fielding skills are you talking about? He is one of the safer slip fielders.
Though I am elated for shoaib's inclusion but If you are talking about six-day match fitness, you might want to exclude shoaib from that list. and how did Sachin made it to squad? On reputation alone I think otherwise both his recent form and fitness are crap to say the least.

Agreed. How Pollock was made captain is beyond me. I know the selectors are more knowledgable and cricketing persons than us guppies but even the most ardent sachin and pollock fans will say that it is a surprise to see sachin in both teams, pollock as captain and Lara as NOT a one day captain at least. He won ICCCT with a mediocre outfit last year.

I personally think this whole selection was based on personal liking nothing about talent or the player himself. Or one could say since Aussies are losing their form (looking at the Ashes) they came up with this squad to let the Aussies feel a little comfortable to play against so called freakin World XI.

It's so sad to see Inzi not picked.. especially in the test team.
Tendulkar should not have been selected for the test team. Because of his selection it denies Inzi a spot in the roster. So, who becomes the 12th and 13th men in the team? Vettori and a bowler or allrounder?
As for captaining the test team. Personally, I don't think Smith deserves it, but I think based on their decision, Smith was the only captain of the national team out of the 13 selected.
Tendulkar was selected for the ODI team because his role is as an opener, unlike Inzi's who is middle order, therefore they are competeting for different spots. To have Gibbs as the replacing batsman is stupidi. If anyone.. it should have been Inzi. Afridi's selection is valid. He will be a valuable help in the allrounder department.
The decision for Polluck as captain blows my mind. It's pretty obvious, Lara should have deserved it. I think the only reason that Lara may have not got it is due to his dicipline problems, and argumentive attitude within in the West Indies team.

Won't this series be.. I don't know the right word, but let's say less enthusiastic if England win the Ashes 3-1?
You may say.. let's just field a whole England XI and beat the Aussies again.
This series made more sense last year when Aussies were still on the up.

Inzi lacks test cricketing fitness, his performance in Australia is a prime example. Time and again, Inzi has shown to be injury prone, since he has batting duties to perform he can get away with it, but htis fact is not hidden from cricket bodies. This is just an observation not a judgement, Inzi is a class act and in current form deserved to be in the team. As for his captaincy talents Iam afraid there he lacks the basic requirements of a multi-linguistic team ie command over English is quite pathetic. Being senior player for Pakistan and captain does give u the privelage of pick and choose fielding positions, but htis may not be possible when playing for the World-11. Anyways, there are other much better slip fielders like Brian Lara, Gibbs, Flintoff, Kallis to just name a few who can field on any other spot in the field.
I definately do not agree with Smith or Pollock as captains, I think this sud be taken as an insult by the Asian playing nations who have contributed so much and have much more to offer. Lara sud have been the choice captain for one days and test match.

Inzi is not included and Shoaib won't last for 6 days and he is useless in ODI's, Afridi may not even get a chance so it's time for me to cancel my plans to go to watch ODI's in Telstra DOME :-(

I am very surprised with your short-sighteness because I did not expect you to throw this argument with our very own Shoaib Akhtar in the squad. and you say Inzi is injury-prone? Oh well by this token, Sachin and Shoaib dont deserve to be in the team either (Its another matter that Sachin doesnt qualify for it on performance either).
Secondly, do you really think English would have been a critieria, they have enough interpreters in the team In dravid agar uss ki zaroorat paray but Inzi can get his point accross even with his bad english communication skills.
