It will be Eid in Pakistan tomorrow on December 9th.
I spoke to my siblings; apart from usual qurbani of cow in which the whole family (whoever is saahib-e-nisaab) chip in including couple of uncles’ families, they bought a small kido bakra and I was like 'itna mehnga aur woh bhee yeh choochaa"
I heard a ear ful of lecture
“yeh tau sasta hai … abb tau normal bakray 30, 30 hazaar kay miltaY haiN… normal gaaye kee qeemat 80 hazaar say tau shuru hoti hai… aik aik dau dau laakh kee gaayeN milti haiN…”
kahaaN gaye woh din jub bachpan maiN hum 3 hazaar kee gaaye laataY thaY :hinna:
Yeah, have not been able to do Eid-ul-Adha for over a decade back home … but never thought I will see this day in mere few years
Why don't people in Pakistan do Eid on the same day as people in Saudi Arabia? It's only a 2 hour difference! They can see Hajj on tv.. then why do they still keep a gap of a day?

Oh please, do not bring that discussion here :(:(
Basically, two hours difference means a lot in terms of birth of new moon and be above horizon at sunset ... Eid is dependent on 10th of Zil hajj....
Re: I was given a Reality Check ... It's about Eid-ul-Adhaa
I think when we move away from Pakistan we sort of start living in some kind of a time warp when it comes to little things we hold dear back home, we sort of expect things to stay somewhat the same, just like we left them, its a comfort zone. And its a rude awakening when the bubble bursts and you realize that things will never be the same as you left them, for better or for worse :( yes i'm horribly homesick!!

wondergutl, good point
and u know what..its a shock when you realize the home for whoch yo are homesick does not exist anymore, it has changed, it gets replaced with nostalgia, and somewhat a sense of loss that you were not connected enough to see teh change.
its like friends u know, there are some u keep in touch with, u both change over time, in interests, focus, outlook etc but if u keep in close contact the series of changes is small enough that u can deal with it, versus someone u lost touch with nd meet 10 years later, its a shocker and many times u simply can not click.
Why can’t they mass produce , cows , goats etc that will drive the prices down. Why nobody thought of producing these animals in a factory instead of farm.

Re: I was given a Reality Check ... It's about Eid-ul-Adhaa
i have been to pakistan only 4 times with many years gap ever since we moved here. every time islamabad has changed more construction and more people. then there is expense. things cost so much now. having grown to be frugal here in the US it is amazing how people dont think twice about spending money there. women specially buying, constantly buying cloths with so high price tags. I feel for the poor in pakistan. what do they eat , how do they survive. Pakistan has lot more poor then rich people. these days middle class is having a hard time getting by then what must the condition be of those poor lower class people.
