I want to become a plumber

no it’s not because of “Joe the plumber”, since high school i remember i wanted goto trade school.

but parents will not allow that. why are Pakistanis against this without giving a solid reason?

same with nursing..

as I study something like accounting which I hate and I know that the future job market is not so good, why do they not see this?

Re: I want to become a plumber

A plumber joke to boost your morale:

A pipe burst in a doctor's house. He called a plumber. The plumber arrived, unpacked his tools, did mysterious plumber-type things for a while, and handed the doctor a bill for $600.

The doctor exclaimed, "This is ridiculous! I don't even make that much as a doctor!"

The plumber waited for him to finish and quietly said, "Neither did I when I was a doctor."

Re: I want to become a plumber

Because plumbing/other trade involve working with your hands. To put it very very very simply, In pakistan, the less body-driven your job is (i.e., sitting more in a cushy office rather than working outdoors), the well off you are. maybe medicine (surgery etc) is an exception....

Also, accounting is one of the "safe" fields, because acctants will always be needed.

Re: I want to become a plumber

CP ,from grade 5-8, in our school in pakistan we had to learn a craft too.
We had woodworking/metal working and electronics as an option.

We still love working with our hands. But to make my living I will rather use me brain.
Its just my choice.

If you are starting a pumbing bussiness no body is gonna bother you and you'll be bussinessman like saith sahab and if you are gonna do a plumbing job then it is hard and its a blue collar job so think and as hobby ghar lo and apnay ghar ke pipelines theek karo saari. You can can do it as a hobby if you like it in this way sab khush ho jaayein gay.

And haan yeh sb ooper waley jinhon ne mashwaray diye hain in ki parwaa naa kerna you are kehney ko in a land of free.

Well... plumbing is not difficult science/art. If you fail to become an engineer, doctor, lawyer, journalist (probably last chance before becoming plumber :D) you can always become plumber.

Re: I want to become a plumber

I think the others have nailed it, cricket....its not such a good thing in desi parents' minds that their son is a "manual laborer". That goes for american (and prob other cultures) parents too.

Me? I would be happy to have my sons learn a manual trade. Its something that will ALWAYS be needed. ALWAYS be appreciated. And will allow them to lead a very nice life - good income (NOT rich for sure but always able to be good providers), always allow them to choose their own schedules and always allow them to earn their living without having to dedicate every second of every day to it. OK so you become an accountant for a prestigious firm...you make good money but you spend 14 to 18 hours a day to just maintain. You always fear for your job because of the economy. You have to play office politics whether you like it or not.

SO much nicer to be a plumber. Or carpenter, electrician, architecht.

Re: I want to become a plumber

architects are not in the same work group as carpenters, electricians or plumbers.

Re: I want to become a plumber

I always wanted to become a detective or a zoo keeper.

Re: I want to become a plumber

become a pet detective.

good Idea. :p

100 points to u.

lol lol

Re: I want to become a plumber

HEy bro, finish ur degree first in accounting, and then do watever u want to do, but degree should be ur first priority.

Yes , that's right plumbers are very lax when it comes to book keeping and accounting , Joe the Plumber still owes 1200 dollars to IRS and he was claiming to be thinking to own a $250 K business. He confessed to an anchor women that he did not even make any kind of move toward owning that 250K business.
Low Karlow gull. I am sure you do not follow his lead.

yeah he doesn even has a plumbing license and he is gona GET money under obama tax plan.

but the thing is that if criketplaya has a degree then he can go to any country of the world and get paid a reasonable amount of money to survive and support his family, but with plumbing he might make a good living in north america but if he goes to pak and other countries he would be treated as kami kameen and wont be able to feed his family.

so be on the safe side bro and get a degree, then u can become anything u want

U never know where life takes u, my parents never thought of coming to canada.

their is nothing wrong with that, they make good moneys over time.

On Cnn they were saying manual labor jobs are the least affected by turndown of the economy.
