Apart from his background what is lie/wrong/manipulation in his this writing ?
Well, for one he used to think he was a music critic, whereas he has absolutely no knowledge about music and thinks hes a music critic, though hes phased out now with the young 'sane' journalists stepping it up, without any vacuums to fill. There might be a time when you could have sympathized with Paracha because he was bullied and beaten up by Jamati students during his school time for being a wuss. **However, he used journalism in a very negative way and started attacking Islam for all the problems hes faced, **though hes lucky his poor sarcasm didnt tip off any loonybins out there, not that he'll live a very long life with all that coke he does.
...to is say bheter kon qoam ka dard samjh sakta hai.
Aik hironchi jo k khud isi mulk main reh ker, isi mulk kay logoon k hatoon zeher ka shikar howa!
we have home grown parasites.
Jee nahee, this isnt some coke addict you would find on the streets begging for money. He was one of those degenerates back in the day who though snorting coke would be the new best thing. His dad was a politician/journalist and had very close ties to the PPP and they were living a very elite life until Zia came.

what do u think i cant guess his standard of living from his language delivery :).
please talk about this specific piece. at the moment i don't care what else he wrote in favor or against islam.
tell me what good is doing our Media to us? and what good our elders are doing to us?
what good did his elders do to him?
...no one never remains the same. if you want to judge him from his past then u will also be judged from your past.
ps. the only thing i dont agree with him is where father asked his son to destroy the TV. he is forgettign that "dawai ka asar tabhi hota hai jab wo jism main hoti hai"
...so instead of leaving the system, become the rational part of the system!
ummy meem, we cant show moronic stuff in other areas to excuse our own. I have personally dealt with national front skin heads in UK, and anti 'ferner' rednecks in US.
we are very quick to compare to other countries and say well similar stuff is going on there, yet we dont compare ourselves to teh same countries along other parameters as well.
Re: I read it and laughed, then i cried, then i laughed
nadeem paracha can be whatever, back when a number of ppl were smitten by his music credentials I had critiqued him right on this site.
but lets move beyond the writer and look at what he is writing, is he wrong? are such misconceptions and messed up views not present in our society to a troubling level?
I mean if we start looking at people's pasts and their affiliations and use that to negate anything reasonable that they are saying toh iss hammam mein aur bhi kaafi nangay hain :)
what do u think i cant guess his standard of living from his language delivery :).
Then stop feeling so much pity for him. He screwed up because he chose to become what he did.

Sorry but sometimes you need to know the history and context to which an authors pens down something. NFP is just bitter because this 'media' failed to give him an oppurtunity to get a piece of the pie that he thought he deserved for being in journalism for so long, but the truth fo the matter is, by the time this new media arrived, so did professional, young journalists who actually though of journalism as a profession and not just a means to pay for their drugs.

I dont know about you but I am what I am because of my elders. As for the media, where do you think you would learn about this chap paracha had it not been for the media?
[quote]
what good did his elders do to him?

His dad spent alot of money and effort on him. He was even sent to a relatively good school in Kabul, but he failed to live upto his expectations. what more can an 'elder' do.

Sure I have no qualms with that, I cant just expect to judge my entire life based on the very last day I spend.

No, snort coke and flush your life down the toilet instead, and be very very bitter and remorseful and try your best to undermine the media or the people who actually get somewhere in life.
nadeem paracha can be whatever, back when a number of ppl were smitten by his music credentials I had critiqued him right on this site.

Well, if you did, I have to admit you were spot on because really as much as he'd gloat 5-10 years ago, he was no music critic, and he had to swallow this bitter truth when all the real critics who studied journalism came to play. I dont think he even thinks of himself as a critic now.
no one has to answer me, but if you have lived in pakistan or went to sschool in Pakistan especially at a younger age..what is it that you heard about jews, or about hindus..was it positive? was it bad stereotyping? you dont have to answer, because you know it and I know it what the stereotypical image is that is portrayed. and forget them..what about shia, sunni,..or ahmadi? what about pathan, sindhi? etc.
let me remind you all of a book. khoon ki holi...written by ishtiaq ahmed, back in 80s soemtime. the premise of the book was that hindus kidnap kids to atatch them to some machine which is basically a pump which pulls blood thru their hearts using a syringe and sprays it all over in whch they then celebrate holi.
I mean how idiotic can you get, how pathetic could it be..
facts are facts my friends, and unless we accept them and want to change them we cant change.
..or we can stick our heads in the sand like we have been for decades...i mean hey..thats given some real great results hasn't it?
so true...
in pakistan every wrong with the muslims in general and pakistan in particular can be either blamed on amreeka or jews
i remember whan i was in grade 2 or 3, the first gulf war started... there were posters of saddam hussain all over the place in which he was shown to be praying.
Our teachers told us to shout 'sadar saddam zinda baad' and 'bush kutta hai' on our way home as though saddam was some devout muslim
ps. i dont know of anyone who ever chose to be hironchee.
i cant really see him objecting his past misery anywhere in his this piece. he didnt write it on some raddi-paper, instead Dawn published his this piece.
so lets discuss the current facts and not let drag the issue to writers character certification.
ok lets take away his insane existence, now how and where our media is working towards progression , and not towards character assassination of every politican, in fact everything and anything that exists in Pakistan?
in fact the chaos, disorganization, collapse of the entire economic infrastructure are not only very nicely put for us to enjoy on own miseries by the media, but it is also topped with the cherry of “terrorism”
our media is acting like a child jis ko abhi abhi aik jhun-jhanay wala kholna day deya ho, or wo bhut khush ho, bhut uchal khud raha hoo.
…and not to neglect the sooo call enlighten moderation.
…and the negative charges cell phone are spilling.
why are you narrowing it down to one case. there are countless ruthless rich chaps exist in Pakistan, who are rich but they involved in car lifting, cell phone snatching, bank robberies, etc just for their two minute thrill.
ps. kool, u can stick to his character, but i cant undermine the reality, which is a bitter one behind the face value of this piece.

no, i did not find it, still looking for it. The dude had one of gthose marlboro shirts that you get for free when you buy a carton, and he just walked like a chicken from one side of the screen to another..
add to it n. safi's imran series copy novel in which bahai are described as ppl where ewveryoen is havign sex with everyone, incst is rampant and all..i forget the title but its there.
and then I guess I am the only one who has received similar 'literature' about ahmadis. I got some almost ra rated pamphlets at emoress market in Karachi back when i was there and the picture it painted of ahmadi values and errr all..I, as a teenager was dying to meet some ahmadi girls :D j/k but this is to illustrate the misinformation in the society
u mean those pamphlets masquerading as books but just slaming yahood and hunood? Hey man I have zero issues with someone questioning any ideology..but do it in a sensible manner.
X2, I agree that these things are wrong, but these things happen everywhere. In middle school I read many books in the Young Adults section of the library about some girl, or some wife , who was abused by a muslim guy- like these kinds of stories are only limited to Muslim guys.
I remember one, Princess Sultana or something that was just like that. About some arab princess and her life with sex obsessed Saudis.
Satanic Verses is another example.
I remember my friend once said that if you want to become an instant millionare, just write a book on how you lived with Muslim parents and got abused and how they forced you to wear hijab, and tried to marry you off at 9.
My point is this kind of stuff is not limited to Pakistan.

yep, and I addressed that already, there is enough lameness all over the world, we dont need to try and compete in that do we?
below is my response on the point of it happens elsewhere.

Re: I read it and laughed, then i cried, then i laughed
Interesting read. So is mr.paracha naming tv/media as the root of all evil or is he having a tongue-in-cheek go at the clueless parenting? The dad blames his son's radical ideas and cluelessness to television, how convenient. Thats exactly whats wrong with us, forever pointing fingers and never owning up to our own mistakes and not looking in our own homes to find clues of what went wrong in the first place. how about paying attention to who your children are hanging out with, where they are spending their days, how about a little conversation now n then to get a clue?
Propaganda exists in every society, since it generally targets and appeals to emotions instead of intellect, it flourishes more in places where there is limited access to education and guidance. Lets take a little personal responsibility, instead of complaining, exposure to these radicals is not the problem, its always been around and it always will be, its about how you handle it. lets be open to dialogue, if not tv, there will be print media, books, leaflets, movies, radio, posters, etc etc. The best weapon against this is personal knowledge and awareness so they are addressed openly, media freedom in Pakistan is a big step in the right direction to address this because the abuses of this freedom far outweigh the potential, it gives joe public an outlet, sure beats the decades of media blackout, with one existing state run channel that was the biggest propaganda machine for the sitting government.
Re: I read it and laughed, then i cried, then i laughed
WG- not sure of NFP's intentions but all is true isnt it, parents who are not involved, influences need to be monitored and checked. what someone is watching, reading, teh compoany one keeps..parents have to be aware of all.
