our TV may not promote extremism but it does confuse people, it spreads misifnromation..hey we can say fox news, bbc, cnn spread misinformation, why is ot so hard to then accept that television does it as well.

The issue is that television is just half the story, some of this stuff is rooted into fallacies spread into the culture whether its prejudiced caricatures of jews and hindus that are propogated in books and magazines, or the moronic tarbiyat which makes ppl go break Cds as if that is some islamic duty.

Paracha may only be partially right in pointing these sort of issues to TV. But the fact is that these issues exist, thatw hy you see idiots burn down KFC or go attack cars with sticks on new years eve which was something I have personally observed.

no one has to answer me, but if you have lived in pakistan or went to sschool in Pakistan especially at a younger age..what is it that you heard about jews, or about hindus..was it positive? was it bad stereotyping? you dont have to answer, because you know it and I know it what the stereotypical image is that is portrayed. and forget them..what about shia, sunni,..or ahmadi? what about pathan, sindhi? etc.

let me remind you all of a book. khoon ki holi...written by ishtiaq ahmed, back in 80s soemtime. the premise of the book was that hindus kidnap kids to atatch them to some machine which is basically a pump which pulls blood thru their hearts using a syringe and sprays it all over in whch they then celebrate holi.

I mean how idiotic can you get, how pathetic could it be..

bhai I agree that there was a backlash at what people saw as oppression, fine I will buy that. but that does not explain the views on jews, or bahai and ahmadis.

There ae issues, understanding the reasons is good, as you have noted one of teh reasons why we have such crap about hindus in our culture, but reasons do nto excuse the issue.

in your view has that deceased over the years though? My experience of pak was mid -late 80's and then just trips so dont know if it has improved over the years. the betetr access to the world thru dish and internet makes me feel that it has but then the moronic stuff that i see sometimes makes me wonder. But I dont know is its flat, delined or increased. I think its declined..i hope so
