I don't want my kids growing up in Pakistan...

Re: I don't want my kids growing up in Pakistan...

What's your point? You don't achieve much if you're not interested in your own advancement. Or in this case, my future offspring.

Re: I don't want my kids growing up in Pakistan...

I know what you mean ...I just misunderstood what you meant by a toddler/parent group as a mother/child development centre which we quite a few there now.

And about breastfeeding advice, as funny as it sounds .. you have no clue how enthusiastically lady health workers love giving this advice. :p And child care . There are quite a few number of MCH (mother child health centres) all over Pakistan. The only problem is a poor structure, lack of computerized systems. Although women there are honestly trying to help. You go there and they start a lecture on vaccination etc.

It's sad and funny at the same time :p

Re: I don't want my kids growing up in Pakistan...

My point, this thread. You're free to raise your children anywhere in this world, Its your choice and ultimately your right. My uncles live abroad, they face no arguments on this very end. However, lowering a Pakistans credentials and in this case Pakistans educational system and creating that as an excuse. Not fair. Otherwise, none but utmost respect. :D

Re: I don't want my kids growing up in Pakistan...

Okay, please do me a favour and go through the thread and see exactly what I commented on. You still may not agree but it was not about the education system itself. You just happened to jump of one of my comments without the background.

Re: I don't want my kids growing up in Pakistan...

Since we have a very good education system in Pakistan - as claimed by many posters - would any one be kind enough to tell me that exact number of International students , we get in a year ?

Re: I don't want my kids growing up in Pakistan...

Could've just said the same in your previous post. :)

Cant give you a precise number. But I know for a fact Lums has a number of them, I've seen foreigners attending Greenwich, Lyceum. Theres one educational institution in Pakistan that is 1 of the top 10 ranked, i think. In the end, if you look at the numbers/statistics I'm sure they won't be much to be impressed about. The point however was that, in my honest opinion, its not the lack of educational infrastructure in the country that makes one to choose to raise kids abroad.

Re: I don't want my kids growing up in Pakistan...

In the QS rankings, the first Pakistani institution is 366 which is NUST. The rest are below 551.

Re: I don’t want my kids growing up in Pakistan…

Corrected, however.

Quaid e azam university stands 69th in Top World University Engineering and Technology Rankings 2011 by QS World University Rankings.

HugeDomains.com

There are 2 more who are in the top 200 list. Federal Government University is 1, according to Quality Standard World University Rankings 2010.

Re: I don't want my kids growing up in Pakistan...

BBCue, I understand where you're coming from, but when a few months ago Pakistan was hit by great floods, do you have any idea what kind of efforts went in to raising money and clothing for the victims over here in the US? That is all we talked about, that is all we did. No favors here, just our emotions...our hearts were bleeding for our countrymen who were suffering...but tell, me, did a 100% of our money actually reach those poor folks? They got eaten by the very politicians and middlemen who sit on Pakistani soil... so tell me, who had more pride in being a Pakstani...me who sent in my hard earned dollars, or the greedy politician or even all those hoighty toighty "freedom fighters" running the numerous NGOs who are getting rich by the day? SO what happens then, I still love my country and my people... ummm...just a bit of the pride gets shaken because there are doubts that have been planted eh. But, actions speak louder than beautiful words on Gupshup. YOu ask all those folks on this thread who you think might be dissing Pakistan... I can bet you they have contributed more to Pakistan than someone who is just living there. Again, please all Pakistanis living in Pakistan, don't come throwing timater at me...first, they are expensive these days, second I'm not saying ALLLLLL people are like that.

At the end of the day, we share our frustrations with each other. It's not like I'm on some Japanese forum and bashing Pakistan.

Re: I don’t want my kids growing up in Pakistan…

This is so petty now, but it’s 69th for **“**Mechanical, Aeronautical & Manufacturing” not over all engineering and tech disciplines.

Obviously, you are going to have some disciplines which are better based on the needs of that country.

To the second link, it talks about the ones in the top 600 that I mentioned other than NUST, they were all below 551. As for Federal Government University, I’m having difficulty finding it in any list. Unless I’m looking for the wrong thing?

Re: I don't want my kids growing up in Pakistan...

so end of the story is Pakistanis r good in arguing for nothing n r good in wasting tons of tons of hours over a very small minor issues n love to bash any1 for no reason . Desis nature remain the same whether they r living in Pakistan or anywhere around the world ...

Re: I don’t want my kids growing up in Pakistan…

thts wht i guess over all analysis from this kids growing …thread :hehe:

Re: I don’t want my kids growing up in Pakistan…

I know… when we come back to this thread next year, we’d be :rotfl: at ourselves.

But I’m right :snooty:

Re: I don’t want my kids growing up in Pakistan…

Petty? 69th Position for “Mechanical, Aeronatutical and Manufacturing” and you think its petty. Those are some pretty booming disciplines, say in Japan, Italy, Germany, U.S, U.K, China and in those disciplines Pakistan scores the 69th position, and you’re calling it petty.

To top that off, I’m supposed to verify 1 university out of the 3 in a ranking that was published in 2010.

Sweet. Aap sey mil kay khushi huwee.

Re: I don't want my kids growing up in Pakistan...

I said it's petty in regards to the fact that we are arguing over exact rankings. However, I do not appreciate when information is copied and pasted from links which is either incorrect or giving an incorrect slant on the matter, which is why I continue to correct it.

Re: I don’t want my kids growing up in Pakistan…

Actually,

I cannot find this University in the top 200 under the section “Mechanical, Aeronautical & Manufacturing”, 2011
http://www.topuniversities.com/university-rankings/world-university-rankings/2011/subject-rankings/engineering/mechanical-engineering

But there is no doubt that some institutions such as NUST produce very good engineering graduates up to bachelor’s level because I know many such who have come here for either well paid jobs or MSc degrees.

Re: I don’t want my kids growing up in Pakistan…

Me neither. Glad we agree, somewhat.

Re: I don't want my kids growing up in Pakistan...

I think it is also a status symbol among Pakistanis.

Pakistanis who grew up in the west are looked highly upon than kids who grew up in Pakistan.

I know whenever I go back to Pakistan, I got rishtas thrown at me left right and center. :)
