Re: I don't want my kids growing up in Pakistan...
Those women who watch Sahir Lodhi Show morning shows and the star plus soaps live here too. I recently met SO many auntiez/girls on this shadi who were only talking about 'haye tum ne us ki saari dekhi thi ..or shaista wahidi ki us episode wala jora maine apni designer se order kerwa bhi liya hai' stuff like that.
Others were the ones who were so totally involved in asking their daughters to dance on "sheila ki jawani' and tell her how she copies all the steps wonderfully, Some other women infact auntiez got even more enthusiastic and themselves started dancing on 'Munni badnam hui' !
I saw a few 2-3 year old girls. They didn't know a word of Urdu but could completely and fluently sing Imran Khan's 'chakk glassi' and 'bounce billo' . Oh and I recently discovered people here celebrate 'Sangeet Night', 'Holi Night, 'hen night'. Something so far I haven't witnessed in Pakistan. :)
:)
So do I declare the entire british asians to be totally indianized or westernized ? No, because I know there are good and bad people everywhere and just because of a group of those I wouldn't label the entire community as bad
aaj kal ki larkia kamal krti hain ..
pehla kalma ata nahi aur english mai baat krti hain .. :D
Re: I don't want my kids growing up in Pakistan...
everyone has personal reason for not going there or going there .. .. one should respect those reasons .. .. BUT .. the thing that pisses me off that people here are stereotyping things about pakistan .. specially those who have never been there for more than 2-3 months .. ..
I think quite a few of us have been saying this in the previous posts too again and again..it's with the stereotyping and generalization that stings me. But all these things keep coming back.
Re: I don't want my kids growing up in Pakistan...
Yep , yep , yep.
No Pakistani drives cab , or work at 7-11 or gas station. they are all doctors , software engineers , businessmen.
Even if they drive cab or work on 7-11 or gas station pretty soon because of their hard work they become owners of one of those. :Mashallah:
Re: I don't want my kids growing up in Pakistan...
If i may ask you, ARE you ok socializing with people who have different set of values? Would you be ok having your kids interact with people who think its ok to disobey their parents, do drugs and have sex even before they turn 12?
I have no intentions to drag this topic to a different direction but your post totally asked for it. Seriously! I am shocked right now.
Again, why are you insisting on my way or the high way?
There might be some balanced people in Pakistan but it is hard to find them, at least I find it hard.
Re: I don't want my kids growing up in Pakistan...
an old way ..when u dun have a reply, fire back .. .. :)
I will - inshAllah ..
No it's just that you came up with so many generalisations about me as though you know me in person so I thought may be I should hear your reasons before commenting the way you did it.
Why is that when I come up with a reason for not moving back to Pak I get accused of stereotyping. Truth might hurt some of you but this is how I see Pakistan today and you might hate me for that but it is what it is.

Can you for once answer the question without diverting from it? When you start an argument it is quite odd to leave it in the mid way unless ofcourse you realise you didnt have much to begin with.
Re: I don't want my kids growing up in Pakistan...
you din answer to my question.
But i agree with your reply .. its US (awaa) who has chosen those leaders ..
us awaam chose zardari? really!
BTW, an off topic but one of the recent polls showed that amongst USA based Pakistanis, Imran is the most popular leader. That probably shows the mindset of Pakistani's living abroad. Today if we are also given voting rights, I can guarantee you that Imran would be our next president.

My answer is no. I don't socially interact with druggies or people who have had sex before the age of 12, I don't even know anyone who has done that.
Re: I don't want my kids growing up in Pakistan...
Ach-chay walaly abroad k ach-achay walay mohallon aur mahloon main.
Give me a break!
Yeh achay walay mohalle aapko yahan bhi milte hai. Don't tell me goras mentality change with the place they live in. With respect to their lifestyle, it really doesnt go with our religion on so many levels. But we can respect it and yet live our way however the same can happen here too but ofcourse only if one is willing.
Re: I don't want my kids growing up in Pakistan...

Ok so you can do the same with the star plus, shaista/sahir watching people here. Rite? but you won't cause you are not willing to do the same. And its ok, its your life. But you shouldnt be giving an illogical reason for your choice.

That's all.
That means not interacting with my relatives. I don't think it's possible or even polite to not socially interact with your relatives.
As I said, it's hard for me to find people in Pak who have similar mentality as mine and people from whom I can learn something. There is nothing illogical about it.
Re: I don't want my kids growing up in Pakistan...
or he can join MQM , they need a pathan face to end pathan mohajir jhagra.
Now my friend, you are living in a dream ...
For MQM to get pathan face, wait for Alatf Bhai to claim that he belongs to Menhmood Ghaznavi family or maybe Changez Khan. Whole Karachi will believe him in a jiffy :D
