My friend wajiha is a skinny little thing and always has been. She has killer metabolism and can eat anything. She always felt the need not to exercise because she was blessed with eating anything and just burning it away.
Lately she has been having all sorts of medical issues and her diagnoses is she is losing muscle and bone mass (even at 30). Her body is too frail.
She has to lift weights and incorprate 30 minutes of cardio (3 days a week).
I would have never imagined that someone with her body type would have to diet and exercise.
Excercise is very important. Even if she has a killer metabolism, I doubt she can run for more than 2-3 minutes at a fast pace even if she tried. Losing bone mass is serious, because at her age she wont be able to initiate bone formation again.
Skinny people don't need exercise- that's a myth!
I never went to the gym, did any kind of exercise because I am skinny too and always thought that if I exercise, I'll lose even more pounds which is totally unnecessary. I can eat whatever I want without gaining any pounds. Last year my husband knocked alot of sense into me because he was studying about how important it is for everyone, skinny or fat, to exercise. He told me that heart disease is the leading cause of death in women and it is SO important to do exercises that get your heart pumping. And not just heart, it's equally good for your mind and toning your body.
I still don't go to the gym but once a day, I do some kind of exercise even if it's just for 10-15 mins. While summers are easier as I can play tennis outdoor, run, walk or play any sport, in winters I get lazy but force myself to go out for a run, or do indoor tennis, push ups, or whatever possible.
Thats very good to hear shay. If you're not so much of a gym person why not invest in dumbbells and keep it in your home for any kind of upper body exercise?.. you'll be amazed how many exercises you can do with just a pair of dumbbells. Anyway, ya its very important to exercise regardless of whichever type of body you have. Even if you are skinny and you think you can eat whatever you want without gaining a single ounce.. well, you have any idea how much bad cholesterol you're gonna end up with if you dont watch your diet?.. wat about heart arteries blockage?.. exercise is not just to gain/loss weight but to feel good from within yourself. Fat or skinny.. theres no excuse to not exercise.
