Maybe. Of course this varies with differnet hospitals and many times, the anesthesiologist’s themselves will allow or not allow the hubby to stay. I know in my hubby’s group, they’ll allow 1 person to stay when administering epidurals. But for c-sections, they make everyone leave while the mom is being prepped. He says its because they’ve dealt with too many situations where what I mentioned above happened.

I ASSUME that some places may allow the husband to stay throughout during emergencies b/c maybe they don’t want the mom more stressed by asking him to leave (plus I imagine things are moving way too fast anyway and they certainly don’t want to be blamed for having the hubby miss the baby’s birth for whatever reason).

off topic but is your husband obgyn or anesthesiologist?
