The bride chose this design:
And it took almost 6 hours to put it on her ![]()
Re: How tortuous was the Mehndi for you?
6 hours??!! No way, it can't take that long.
I LOVE mehndi, so I'm going for the full bridal mehndi for my wedding.
I'm kind of afraid of putting mehndi on at night though, I once fell asleep and put my hand on my face. I used up all my foundation that week...people still kept asking me what is that pattern on my face. But I want to spend my time having a laugh, and leaving the mehndi till the very end...
confuddled

Black mehndi is banned in canada i think by the government due to safety, it does look awesome though when put on along with the other desi mehndi to give some shades

y is it banned in canada?? any specific reason!!
Re: How tortuous was the Mehndi for you?
^ I assume becuase the chemicals used in it can cause rashes and skin irritation.
Re: How tortuous was the Mehndi for you?
I have had black mehndi put on me so many times without any skin reactions. I guess it depends on the skin type the person has. Sensitive or not etc.
the chemical content in black mehndi is too high and causes several skin related issues, thats the reason that its illegal in canada, you can chek out this link on health canada's website which outlines it being illegal and other issues related to black henna at canada's governmental health website. I cant post up links unfortunately as my post count is still under 25 :(

I got my Mehndi on the Mehndi day in the afternoon... I had the bharay walay haath... I don't exactly remember how long it took her but i really enjoyed it, had cousins with me thr.. So, we had good time chatting. Took a shower before gettin the mehndi done, had my mehndi on thru out the func....... I loved it :)
My SIL (jethani) had beautiful Mehndi too, with gem stones. It looked good on her but i don't really like gems etc on mehndi, i wanted mine to be very traditional... My sis got that black outline Mehndi..
Re: How tortuous was the Mehndi for you?
a trick to make your mehndi colour darker: after you have washed off or rubbed off the dry mehndi, rub VICKS (vaporub) on the area (hands/arms). Turn on the stove top, wait for it to heat up, and hold your hands and arms over it. Dont put your hands too close to the stove, but close enough that you can feel the heat. When your hands get too hot, move them away to cool down, then put them back to heat up again. This makes the most amazing dark maroon mehndi colour ever. I always use this trick, and my mehndi colour always comes out amazing!

How long should you do this for or how many times?
How long should you do this for or how many times?
you only need to do it for a few minutes, once or twice. Usually I do it for about 5 minutes, once (right after I wash the mehndi off), and the colour comes out amazing!
It took 5 hours for the artist to apply my wedding mendhi and over 6 1/2 hours to have my walimah mendhi done-sitting there was driving me insane.
I had the standard mendhi-no the black stuff as I've heard of health warnings on them.x
Re: How tortuous was the Mehndi for you?
Anyone into getting the glitter stuff on the day of? Would you talk to the Mehndi artist about it before she put it on and have her put the glitter mehndi on at the parlour or something?
