I had mine on the day before the wedding, and it was soooo tiring, i was made to sit for about 4 hours, couldnt go toilet and had a load of local girls come and just sit and stare which didnt help being uncomfortable lol. no one remembered to give me anything to eat either, so then i had to go through the mehndi ceremony,i had my sleeves rolled up to show off the mehndi(i only had it on my arms and hands, didnt have the patience to have it on my feet too)and it was december, the ceremony took place in the evening in the yard so i was shivering throughout most of it,i had a cold too,so my sisters spent a lot of time wiping my nose for me lol, by the end of it, it was nearly midnight,i wasnt hungry anymore lol. i look back on it very fondly though:)

why do people forget to feed the bride ![]()
Re: How tortuous was the Mehndi for you?
The photographers always comment how the bride waited patiently for hours as their mehndi application was being done. The work of art so perfectly applied always amazes the non-desi photographers.
Re: How tortuous was the Mehndi for you?
^True. My non-desi photographer hinted that she'd love to capture a couple of shots while the mehndi is being put on my hands. But that would mean that I'd have to have it done at the venue. Not sure how comfortable that would be.
Re: How tortuous was the Mehndi for you?
Can't you ask her to visit when mehndi is being put on? I don't think mehndi application done at the venue is comfortable at all.
what mehndi comes out nicely on ur arms aswell? i dont like the orangy colour of it... what mostlyhappens. or do brides apply anything else on the mendi to make it darker?
Re: How tortuous was the Mehndi for you?
I think even if it turns orangey, you will see it getting darker as the time passes.
Re: How tortuous was the Mehndi for you?
Okay so I'm not having mehndi done for my rukhsati. Too much to sit through.

Re: How tortuous was the Mehndi for you?
mizzie, it's so much work though =/
Re: How tortuous was the Mehndi for you?
It does get darker as time passes but you can opt for black mehndi as well.

Noooo! Have it done. It will look so nice on you and you won't ever have to have it done after this.
i know i was a very good cousin i fed my cousin when she was a bride and combed her hair lol i remember she said she felt like a baby the way i took care of her…i hope i get pampered too inshAllah..
Doesn’t black mehndi have chemicals in it tho which can cause rashes and skin irritation?
Yes- black henna can cause permanent chemical burns- believe me it happened to my aunt! They are permanent and she had it done 5 years ago and i can still see the design of the henna (the scars only come in the places the henna contacted) and now she can’t use hair dye anymore since she’s sensitized to the chemicals.

i don’t know if i can post a link but im too lazy to upload a picture.
Re: How tortuous was the Mehndi for you?
I had mine done early in the morning after my mehndi so I was really tired! I had a simple design on both sides of my hands and it didn't take too long. Once it had all dried I found myself a quiet little spot in the busy wedding house and got some beauty sleep (was careful to avoid hand-to-face contact though!)

Hmmm... Have seen loads of brides wearing black mehndi without and reactions. Bina Khan just had an Eid session at her salon where the mehndi girls experimented with black mehndi without any problems.
Re: How tortuous was the Mehndi for you?
i got mehndi done a few hours before my mehndi ceremony, had to have my best friend help me put on clothes and wash my face! and it kept making a mess..so irritating..but the end result was beautiful :)
