I guess i should post this question here-instead of a new thread, since it has to do with wedding costs...here's the deal--we're booking a caterer and he has his own waiters that cost about 150$ each...this hall we're thinking of getting offers waiters but they charge 10$/guest flat. Then this other hall says they charge per hour for each waiter.:( I'm totally confused abt what's the norm with the waiter rates...any ideas?
I guess I would like to know for bargainings sake :P
i think wait staff is hired per hour... i know for our wedding they had a minimum number of guests per waiter, and thats how we figured out how many people we needed, and then we paid the hourly rate.
but $150 is a bit much for a single person!! is that for the whole night?
i've not heard of it being charged per guest though... thats a lot of money for a waiter!
also you really only need to hire additional wait staff if you're having a sit down dinner... for a buffet, they should be provided to you at no extra cost, i.e. the cost you're paying for the buffet per guest, should also include the cost of the wait staff.
hmmm I just got off the phone with the hall guy whose charging 10$/head and when I mentioned that I found a hall that charges 10$/hr he quickly changed his words to "yeah thats what we doo 10$/hr--10$/head is absurd" ( ithink hes a crook and trying to bank off of desis bcs he clearly told me "no per hour"). When I told him the wedding will go from 7 to 12 (5 hrs) he said they need an extra 5 hours to setup (!!)...so hes charging me 500$ for the service...
All we re setting up are table clothes with simple table setting, flower centerpeices and its buffet style on top of that--the most work they'll do is pick up plates and serve punch, hors dourves and cut cake slices during the wedding ... but the extra 5 hrs seem excessive no?
thats bull!!! why does he need 5 hours to set up?? he's only setting up the tables, right? your florist/decorator are doing the rest? or even if he is putting the centrepieces on tables, he's still overcharging. 3 hours max is what i'd pay for. regardless of how long your wedding runs, set up does not take 5 hours.
i'd say keep bargaining and definitely get everything in writing with his signature before paying him a single cent. agreeing over the phone is not really agreeing, you know?
i'm getting married in NY, US. $3000 bedroom set wow. I don't spend that much money on furniture bhi i don't have big huge bank balance. I didn't buy bridal dress from here it cost so much so my younger brother went to india last month to see his wife so he bought bridal dress from there. Just make dua for me that everything goes well. Thanks in advance

SGC since my mom's sick n can't travel I have to do EVERYTHING..including my fiance's shopping cuz he can't take off! I know karachi and lahore inside out, I just hate shopping alone =( I think I shud hire you long-distance =)

(cheegum seriuosly cost of wedding simply depends on one's lifestyle and way of spending and saving money so it's upto u to keep it simple or make it one big lavish wedding ......... there's no big deal about it , it' s just a one day event which u could stretch to as many days as u want according to yr choice and affordibility .................. u just don't need to have money for a wedding party but for the responsibilities that comes with it)
