as i briefly mentioned, it's not just the indian subcontinent. it's anywhere where tribal cultures prevail, including the middle east. it's partly the way women are viewed/treated and partly this obsession with honour. i'm sure this was shared by other cultures too.. but they have moved on.
I think this sums it up really well, it's the very patriarchal cultures in which ppl don't seem to want to move forward where this stuff nearly always happens..
Also, we have one of the few cultures in the UK that doesn't value education as much as we should. The Indians and Chinese (they used to treat their girls horrifically as well) have a reputation for being amongst the most educated over here and so the mindest amongst the majority of them has changed whilst we have remained quite far behind in terms of educational advancement and 'enlightenment.' UK Indians have practised honour killings but in far fewer numbers (even in forced marriage statisitics they fare wayy better than we do). Amongst the English they don't really have the reputation for being 'backwards' that we have :( It's the poorer and less educated communities (Pakistanis, Kurds etc) who hold onto these barbaric traditions more..

where is the honour left in "honour killing"? once ur family issues r out ur reputation gets at stake. now killing will only bring more shame and suffering on remaining family."this is the mother whose son killed her own sister" ab mernay wali masoom aur marnay wala zalim. killer in jail and family mistreated by society.

but i agree with mabrook … honor is lost once you’ve got murder on your hands! the same society turns it’s back on the man/family who commit the murder in “fear” of that society … izzat .. naak … honor … bla bla bla
i'm not saying kill ur girls if they don't listen or these ppl did right things(they brought themselves azaab in this world n hereafter) but these incidents happen only when both sides act stupid and stubborn. in such cases i'll say both r extremist. aap apni family ko behter jatay ho tu kyoon apni jaan azab khatray main daltay ho. now don't bring islam in islam advocates strict punishments for adultery and other sins. loge us per bhi cheekhtay he hain even if they r given by shariah court. everyone wants complete freedom and their own set of rules.
its easier said" disown the child" but may b its not easy for the families going thru it.
Even if someone is "wild" you cannot kill them. the killer is the psycopath murderer whos SICK in their head and has no justification. im not saying whether sharia is right or not, all im saying is that you cannot carry out these cruel inhumane acts. So you're saying that its hard to disown your child, but very easy to kill her?

^ ok so don't have children if you think you are capable of killing them one day if they disobey you. A parent is supposed to love the child unconditionally NO MATTER what they do. If your child is disobeying, you can make them feel guilty, kick them out, cut all relations with them but killing them is MURDER and you will be a MURDERER if you commit such a horrendous act.

if i ever enter such a situation then my religious values will come in play. even if i get really mad at them i'll remember wat i'm myself not allowed by Allah. so strong values and discipline within can n does win over human nature.

It is NOT human nature to kill your children. It's the opposite. You don't have to be a mother to know that its wrong to kill. Even if you don't have any religious values, normal people would never think of such a horrible act.

in just calgary in last one yr there hav been so many murders( both individual and whole family) and not even one was caused by a muslim. whole families found dead in their home, police fnds no evidence of any one entering the house.police suspects mom or dad killed kids n then themselves. n many of these cases r happening to normal ppl. neighbour found them a very happy family. u need to increase ur knowledge of the world b4 u jump on things by saying normal ppl do this n don't do that. sirf known criminals he crime nahin kertay. many murderers don't hav previous police record and were Shareef ppl of the society.

I said only sick people can commit such crimes and YOU said you can totally understand why someone would do something like that when your children disobey.
Honour killings a.k.a 'we're miffed coz you didn't marry back home and have wasted a damn good UK/USA/EUROPEAN passport' happen because some people feel they can take a life and say they did it for religion/or their honour when in fact what they are doing is taking out the frustration of being in my humble opinion a failed part. Okay, they may have brought up a lovely person, but in their heart they would have preferred a son/daughter who prayed 5 times a day, didn't know what sex was and would marry whomever daddy/mummy said. Because the child didn't do that (because they have a mind and heart of their own) parent sees it as a failure and a 'stain' on their honour which OUTSIDERS will see and rather than have someone say to them 'hey heard your daughter married someone outside her culture' they would rather be known as a person who stands up for their beliefs/religion/culture blah blah blah.
Truth is a lot of these honour killings could be stopped if the selfishness stopped and the communication began between parents and children.
I'm sorry but if you wish to take advantage of say what the UK gives (e.g. good free english education, nhs, opportunities that you can get without bribing) then you need to take the good with the bad-not all kids in the UK will wish to be strict Muslims/Sikhs etc.
I've heard of many honour killings in the UK-the one posted about the guy getting killed-don't get me wrong but why is it that they felt killing the guy was acceptable when it was their daughter who became pregnant? Did she never hear of the pill? To me an innocent guy (who may have been sinning in accordance to Islamic rules of Zinnah) was killed to make the girls family look high and mighty. What a sick, sad, nasty, horrid culture some belong to where killing is a good thing rather than facing the issues at hand.

i dont care you're a mother or a father or an uncle, i dont care you're child has committed zina or god kows what .... YOU CANNOT KILL ...Only God has right to judge and punish that person. Killing is not a permission we've been given.
