Just one example: Can Jews eat halal food? - Yahoo! Answers
Re: How many of you eat Kosher?
only halal zabeeha. why take a chance and make Allah (swt) more upset with us when halal meat is readily available.
Re: How many of you eat Kosher?
why would Allah be upset at something he allowed? ![]()
exactly.
That’s what I don’t understand.
Re: How many of you eat Kosher?
I don't.. I am just not comfortable with it.. in fact it never and ever it cross my mind that if halal isn't there I can eat kosher so for me that's not even a choice.. I stick to veggie and seafood in case there is no halal meat available!

we are allowed to eat from the people of the book if they are offering food to us, in other words, say you were visiting someone and they offered you (non-zabihah) chicken- you could eat that. it doesnt mean you are allowed to eat kosher for all your other meals too.
here in canada, most of the grocery stores, from loblaws to loeb to superstore to food basics to safeway- they all have some halal options. at the very least, they will have some zabihah-halal (brand) stuff in the deli sections. food basics actually sells halal meat too.
so when you are the store, and you see hot dogs that are kosher and hot dogs that are halal, you are supposed to pick the halal ones. same thing with your other stuff-- you are not supposed to pick a chicken that has been slaughtered as per kashrut dietary laws over one that has been slaughtered as per zabihah laws.
to each their own… the above is for those who are interested in following zabihah halal.
that is incorrect. You are allowed to buy kosher meat.
And the post you quoted has 2 issues
1- while prepared kosher food may have alcohol in it, we are talking plain meat. So the alcohol point is moot.
2- the quoted poster did not know how an animal is slaughtered and the physical process is exactly the same.
The ruling on kosher was not that it’s okay in a setting where you are recipient or guest, but that it is lawful for Muslims to consume. Period.
People go on the point that ahl e kitab are not the same today as they were then which is all fine, but when the slaughter approach is the same as it was when it was allowed, there is no issue.
What you're talking about is zabiha...halal and zabiha are two different things.
Not to some people though, right? Your definition of halal was 'what is allowed' and zabiha was 'slaughtered in the name of Allah swt' but for a lot of Muslims 'allowed' meat by definition means slaughtered in the name of Allah swt. I'm not saying I agree with it, but I hear people say 'zabihah doesnt mean halal' a lot and its kind of a minute point...we all understand that usually when people say halal meat, they mean meat which is slaughtered in accordance with the appropriate religious rules... Everyone knows chicken and beef are allowed and pork isn't, the point of contention is whether its necessary to be slaughtered in a particular way or whether we can just eat any old chicken, beef or lamb.
Re: How many of you eat Kosher?
Muslims and Jews Slaughter animals in the same manner.
that is incorrect. You are allowed to buy kosher meat..
nope. not if halal is available!
bear in mind, even pork/alcohol are permissible to consume in moderation should you be facing famine/disease/war/other calamity. this does not mean they are halal under normal circumstances. same goes with kosher, etc. they are permissible to consume should halal not be available to you.
Re: How many of you eat Kosher?
^where in the Quran is that condition placed?
Re: How many of you eat Kosher?
So zabihah and kosher are exactly the same, no difference whatsover...why the distinction between the two in the first place in the Quran?
PS I respect everyone's individual choice of eating whatever they want, the only thing I am trying to decipher is how kosher is now being seen as an equivalent to zabihah halal, its a pretty serious issue for most and not another pointless online discussion, where people just want to 'win' the argument. things should be cleared.

1- I believe we are talking kosher in general here, prepared or raw. people were discussing hot dogs, gelatin free products etc
2- I know how an animal is asked to be slaughtered in Islam, Allah's name has to be called out at the time of slaughter. are jews calling out Allah's name? source?
“And eat not of that whereon Allah's name hath not been mentioned, for lo! it is abomination. Lo! the devils do inspire their minions to dispute with you. But if ye obey them, ye will be in truth idolaters” (6:121).
Re: How many of you eat Kosher?
Funny thing is that the people who are claiming to eat "halal" only will have no problems with eating haram burgers at McD's or Burger King. LOL

I don't think they are the same, simply permissable.

1- and as long as you can then confirm that it has no alcohol in it, then alcohol is not a factor, for prepared foods.
2- for meat..
lets turn this around,
a- islam says that slaughter in the name of anyone but allah is haram
b- and then it says the slaughtered meat from jews is fine..
c- jews do have prayers to god as they slaughter the animal
please put a+b+c together.
This is not an issue of dire straits (not not the band) in which case you are allowed to eat pork, monkey, ood bilao and laggar baggar and whatever, but what is normally allowed.
source...islam. read up
Re: How many of you eat Kosher?
^ lol!
thumbs up
Muslims are allowed to eat halal meat sluaghtered by people of the book that is Christians and Jews. Chirstians (at lkeast most of them) don't have a prescirbed way any more but jews do. So that's allowed. i eat kosher and zabiha halal nothing ele. Yes, i am careful of alcohal in Kosher products. To me if Allah (SWT_ said its ok to eat kosher then its fine with me too.
I respect your opinion, but my argument against that is:
Christians and Jews cannot be considered "Ahl al-Kitāb" or people of the book anymore. Christians believe in the trinity (God, son, and the holy spirit) and believe Prophet Jesus to be their Lord and savior. That right there rules them out. Secondly, Jews these days really can't be differentiated from Christians, even if the slaughter companies are run by Orthodox Jews, you don't know if the meat is being cut by machines or if the person slaughtering is an atheist, etc etc.
there are a million concerns. and if halal zabiha meat is ready available, why take the risk?

Now you're just inventing stuff to complicate laws Allah SWT made simple and easy for us. In fact the Quran talks about how it was a Jewish practice to create new rules and restrictions (Passover just passed -- do you know how arduous a task it is to keep up with the kitchen and dietary rules for that?!?), and we are cautioned against doing the same.
