How many of you eat Kosher?

Re: How many of you eat Kosher?

Muslims are allowed to eat halal meat sluaghtered by people of the book that is Christians and Jews. Chirstians (at lkeast most of them) don't have a prescirbed way any more but jews do. So that's allowed. i eat kosher and zabiha halal nothing ele. Yes, i am careful of alcohal in Kosher products. To me if Allah (SWT_ said its ok to eat kosher then its fine with me too.

:k:

Exactly. I find it strange that people who have no problem with regards to for example, dressing, dating, or treating others with disrespect, act so smug just cz they eat halal. Not pointing out anybody here but I have seen this attitude often enough on GS and in real life. IMO doing one thing right doesn't give anyone the right to look down on others.

That said, eating halal is the best thing to do because its simple and convenient. No arguments about halal vs zabiha or feeling guilty or whatever.

^ good post!

Re: How many of you eat Kosher?

Personally I eat zabihah only, I don't get the point of spending extra money on buying kosher (its more pricey than regular meat) when zabihah costs the same and is readily available. the only people I see eating kosher amongst desis are the ones who don't follow the zabihah rule strictly, they just eat kosher to avoid eating any pork by-products by accident but they don't really justify it as 'halal'

I was a non-zabihah eater for quite sometime till I was told about a sunnah that my namaz/salaat will not be accepted if eating non-zabihah, personally it seemed not worth the zabaan ka maza to jeopradize my namaz/faith, whether the sunnah is true or not i'd rather not take a risk. I see it as a blessing in disguise, avoiding all that salt/sodium laden, processed stuff, not missing much.

shabash...so now regional politics would dictate religion? by the same token, shias can say well we will not have meat prepped by sunnis, since they are oppressed by sunnis in saudi arabia etc, and sunnis can say the same because their butts are kicked by shis in iran...then we can get into barelvi, deobandi and all that stuff..fun fun.. :)

and this topi drama about 'true jews and christians' sounds good to ppl who want a reason to just not eat kosher, but by the same token, we can question whether muslims are real muslims.

I find it very amusing that people who are quick to declare muslims non muslims and mushrik, are the same ones who then try to find ways to say no to kosher. (not targeted to anyone on GS btw)

so if we are going to say well some jews are not really jews so the meat they prepare is not kosher, well you know what, by the same token..one can say that some muslims are not really muslims, so the meat prepared by them is not zabeeha.

sounds logical to me...

cool, which fast food places, would be good to know.

Re: How many of you eat Kosher?

Usually Halal at home, but I do eat Kosher. When my parents first came here, Halal wasn't available. They went to the same Kosher place that's near my work now!

FYI Many Jews do not consider Hebrew National to be Kosher (I didn't understand why, something nuanced in their laws).

Re: How many of you eat Kosher?

Reha, I like the Al-safa chicken franks.... they are yummy.
My 4 year old loves them too :)

X2, I am not talking about when Islam first started (or pre-Islam for that matter), or the fact once upon a time all Muslims would have been quite happy to shop at a butcher who was Jewish/Christian. What I'm on about is right now. I'm also talking about personal experience. I'm lucky enough to live where we have Muslim butchers, and I'm quite grateful for that. With that being my options, I would not consider Kosher. Alternatives to meat are also available, so if for some reason the Muslim butchers left the area I'd so veggie. Would I shop at a Jewish butcher because he belongs to one of the faiths of ahl-e-kitab? I'd rather die without eating meat ever again if that was my only option.

Re: How many of you eat Kosher?

:hmmm:

I can see how the Muslim to Jew ratio is different in the US, but in the UK, Muslims outweigh Jews (so it seems, don’t know about stats so don’t ask!) and halal meat is definitely more widely available.

We travel to a farmshop to get our halal meat produce. We’ve never really eaten kosher at home, and there really hasn’t been a need to eat kosher, because halal is always available.

Re: How many of you eat Kosher?

Is this thread about meat only?
I find it very useful to just check for the K or U sign (like pudding, yogurts, stuff that usually contains gelatin, etc.).... it makes my life easier as I can just pick up the Kosher stuff and be safe knowing it doesn't have pork in it.

Re: How many of you eat Kosher?

I don't know yet how this thread will conclude...

But whenever I visit Pakistan and eat qurbani ka gosht...the best taste I get than elsewhere... :)

PS: I still suspect that I feel taste-wise...pretty much a difference in halal meat directly consumed...the deliciousness is many folds(though still downside of hygiene)...than a halal (freezing/defreezing problem) meat in the West...

What about cakes and other such stuff? Alcohol might be a key ingredient ;) which is kosher.

Re: How many of you eat Kosher?

Who uses alcohol in cake? Aside from tiramisu?

I agree to what you are saying. One should worry about fulfilling all tenants of Islam but one cannot say that since I do not pray 5 times of salah so what a big deal it is for me to eat pork . We have to start somewhere and eating the right , allowable and rizq a halal in itself is an ebadat.

Visit the slaughter houses of any Muslim majority country and you will face hard time finding a butcher who follows and knows all the basics of Islam.
I have heard that some of them even instead of saying Allah O Akbar will be saying "taree maan ke ...... . taree bahan key.....to the bakra or cow he is slaughering if she does not go down easily" Wallah o Alim.

Re: How many of you eat Kosher?

so the people that eat meat from the People of the Book (i.e eating a Big Mac from McDonalds for example), how do you really know that a Christian or Jew is doing the cutting?

Don't you think it could be an atheist, a Hindu, Sikh or someone else?

A well known Arab(Christian) bakery in my area uses alcohol in some of their cakes and pastries.

Re: How many of you eat Kosher?

^and a LOT of Italians and hungarians do it as well!

Christian Arab or Muslim Arab ?
