I had bad nausea and crazy food aversions for 2 months or so in the first tri. I found I could tolerate simpler food much better than spicy, complex tastes. I was eating things like plain dal-chawal, cheese toast, mashed potato, ice cream, and lots of fruits and nuts. Oh and coconut water was a life saver. Have you tried it? Weirdly, I would throw up if I drank plain water with my food, but coconut water went down perfectly well. You get packaged coconut water in most major grocery stores. Ginger tea or nimbu-paani works for some women too.
Another tip is to eat small portions every 2 hrs instead of keeping long gaps between meals. Good luck, and hang in there -you should be back to feeling better by week 13 or so
i have aversion to all desi food right now, except daal. i cannot tolerate meat salan, even thinking of it is making me wanna throw up. mainly eating pizza, sandwiches, fruits. i love desi food normally but right now cannot even think of it. i tried ginger tea, didn’t work. i will try coconut water. i feel like the more i eat, the worse i feel. thanks for the tips!
^ Sounds exactly like me! hang in there.. it will get better
And I’m sure you’re doing this already, but make sure you’re taking your folic acid and prenatal vitamins as prescribed. My Ob told me that during the first trimester the prenatals basically take care of all of baby’s needs, so you don’t have to worry about eating enough, especially with the nausea.
I second Diclectin. It was the only thing that kept my nausea and vomiting minimal. It’s also highly researched and designed especially for pregnancy nausea and pregnant women so it’s super safe.
yes have been taking folic acid long before even trying to conceive. its very hard to eat enough. even looking at food pictures making me want to throw up.
I had horrible nausea until I delivered but ginger, apricots and preggi pops became my staple. If you really can’t keep anything down, then do try something other than zofran but keep your doctor informed.
To the health professionals on this forum - Why is anti-nausea medication only prescribed as a last resort? My Ob too told me to come to her for a prescription only if the nausea becomes unbearable. That tells me this is not a preferred solution, and that there may be side effects…?
Bella quick question: are you suffering nausea, or nausea AND vomiting? Because it seems the meds people are suggesting are for vomiting, and you seem to be suffering nausea. Be careful what you put into your body (meds) during pregnancy - I agree with S02: everything has side effects.
well, thanks for that I only asked because some of the posts here seem to suggest that taking the 2 meds is a no brainer, despite the fact that OP’s Ob has not prescribed those meds yet.
and hate to break it to you but meds that I or anyone else suggested wont help much with nausea.. it’s basically to stop vomiting so you dont get dehydrated.
I was nauseous until the day I delivered but I stopped throwing up around 20 weeks.. just a few days here and there after that.
Honestly I would suggest just take it easy and know that your body is doing what needs to be done.. not every woman has the picture perfect pregnancy and some women just suffer a lot more than the normal aches/pains so it is what it is. you can do it, with nausea and without nausea
There’s a risk involved, but sometimes you’re feeling so sick and having so much trouble keeping any nutrients/fluids in your body, it’s worth the risk.
^yep what she said.. with my first pregnancy, I was given so many narcotics through pills or IV that my docs told me my baby may have withdrawals after his birth. The day I didnt take the meds were the days I ended up in ER for even aggressive solutions. I knew the risks, docs knew it but it had to be done to carry the baby full term and have him as strong as possible.
Alhamdulillah I went on to deliver him at 39+ weeks… he was closely monitored during pregnancy and after birth and had no withdrawals. so yeah trust your OB and if you dont, switch your doctor. You need peace of mind for nine months and must have faith in your OB or it will be tough.
nausea only, have not vomited once. but its a very horrible nausea, i havn’t been able to eat anything in the last week, lost 6 pounds in 1 week. so im worried
no i wouldn’t mix 2 meds by myself. zofran didn’t help me much. i asked dr about diclegis but he said he doesn’t know too much about it yet. im trying these ginger candies from tomorrow which i ordered online and they are supposed to help.
Interesting… My first pregnancy I went to a walk in clinic at 6 weeks and asked for diclectin because I was so nauseous. My OB wrote me a prescription this time around without even asking - he just assumed I would need / want it. It’s a Canadian drug I believe so maybe that’s why it’s so readily acceptable and prescribed?
Gtg is right tho - it’s more for vomiting altho it did help with my nausea too. I wouldn’t worry about your weight loss too much- your baby will take what it needs from you. I’d be most concerned about dehydration. Monitor that and head to ER if you start seeing symptoms. Have you tried sucking on Popsicles?
