^ Pardon me but my question was not answered TLK bhai.
I simply asked who are “we” or “our”. Does this mean collectively speaking of Musims OR Whoever you might have thought about,.. among which you included yourself?
If that is true, then question comes do you think Hitler or Osama are ‘your’ heros?
I hope not, so why say “we” or “our”? Hope you got it.
Now I can’t understand what it means by “**we **should own it”. Owning means what? Taking the responsibility of someone’s opinion as own?
I disagree with that. Your red sentences are contradictory. If people are not responsible then why should they own it?
And again use of word “we”?
By the way people may have problem if you use the words ‘leadership’ since they may not agree with appointing anyone including yourself as leader,… and speaking on their behalf. Especially when they are being unnecessarily included among those who believe in outrageous ideas.
Who should own it then my friend? The people who are posting Hitler’s pics with praises don’t think they are doing anything wrong. Next line of effectees are us, who are not responsible, but getting represented by them idiots. You don’t think so? Well 9/11 was one example. Handful of people did that, and to this day, when the word terrorism pops up anywhere in the world, the word Muslim comes to people’s minds.
Prophet said in one hadees (long hadees) that people got punished along with the bad doers cause they did not speak up.
Absolutely those who are doing this idiotic act should own, but certainly not those who are not.
When someone says ‘we’ or ‘our’ then that person is including himself/herself also.
People rightly thought you wanted those who are not responsible should be included.
No one who is not doing anything wrong should be ‘made to own it’. That is my position.
I think your post did not come across as if you wanted to just criticize some idiots but wanted to include others too… and including yourself by using words like ‘we’ ‘our’.
Besides, no one knows who actually started this internet slogan. Maybe some haters of Jews or maybe those who simply wanted to show Muslims in general think this way. Not true.
Is there any internet evidence which you might be able to post?
^ Good point. By extension, We should all do that wrt any wrongful acts, including institutionalized and societys discrimination and injustice against other minorities based on race, religion or orientation. Only when we show compassion, empathy and humanity towards others will society return the favor.
No “we” in me. I’m not hurting. I’m sure there’s plenty of propaganda pictures and videos everywhere. None of which can be verified. Why am I seeing all these people collecting money for Palestine in London? Where’s the money gonna go? To Hamas? Yeah nice one.
You know, I’ve been thinking this for a while and even got into it with someone about this on facebook. All of these people who care oh so much about their Palestinian brothers and are oh so outraged, what have they ever done for their own communities? Have they ever volunteered at their local masjid? Helped raised money for the masjids in their own communities? Volunteered to feed the homeless? Helped organised clothing drives for the needy? Most have not yet they want to rush to the aid of their “brothers” in Palestine? As a friend of mine is rather fond of saying: Child, please!
To me personally. It shows how fake a person is, like a herd going baahhh. All these current problems we got with yuts getting brainwashed and converts being misled within our own community. So many other things, as you said. Homeless people etc but nah, let’s just ignore all that, not our problem. We’ll support something in the middle east, that’s our problem :halo:
Do these people even know who they’re supporting? Innocent people dying happens all across the world yet it’s gaza with a terrorist group as it’s government that these people wanna back. Yeah, nice logic there. I’m sure all the money they are collecting will get them some more shell rockets, cause it’s certainly not gonna get to the innocent people.
^ Not only that, but it just seems so idiotic to me that people who couldn’t be bothered to help their local communities are so keen to help people thousands of miles away. Shortly after the 7/7/05 London bombings, many innocent Muslims were arrested on suspicion of being connected to that. Many were recent immigrants, who did not know what their rights were or how the legal system works in Britain and as such, spent months unjustly detained without legal counsel of any kind. Where was the outrage on behalf of their Muslim “brothers” then? Where was this righteous anger that we now see on behalf of Palestine?
While there were some oraganisations that helped raised money and provided legal counsel to them free of charge, the response from the community was rather underwhelming. The icing on the cake? Most of the lawyers who volunteered their time were not Muslim and had no ties to the Muslim community. Oh, how we help our own!
Yep, in the UK it’s always the non-muslims helping the muslims in need. Pretty pathetic on behalf of muslims to stand idly by and do nothing yet cry about things half way across the word.
Apologies, I explained myself rather oddly. Separate incidents. The person I was referring to (with whom I got into it on facebook) is an acquaintance of my husband, who, I know for a fact, never lifts a finger here yet is constantly railing about Palestine. The type of people I’m referring to are people I come across at the masjid, not necessarily people on facebook. (Alas, I’m rather reclusive online and do not have 900 facebook friends. At most, I have 50 people total, including family, friends, and colleagues. :D)
Now, Britain is a free country and I’m not suggesting that people should be forced to volunteer or give to charity. If one wants to rail about what’s happening in Palestine while never lifting a finger in one’s own community, that is quite fine. Such people just shouldn’t expect to be taken seriously.
It’s the sheer magnitude of unprecedented level of violence and bloodshed in Gaza that moves people. The fact that this brutal genocide takes place every other year (if not every year) is what creates a sense of urgency and desire for greater action amongst people who otherwise aren’t known for their philanthropic work.
I understand where you’re coming from Sentry and Mezhgan, but what Jolie has said above is what I think is also the reason that everyone is much more involved. It’s the unnecessary loss of human life, over the span of years and level of injustice that has taken place which is of more concern to people.
