Bowing also shows humility. Look at the chinese, koreans and japanese they keep bowing to everybody does that mean that they consider others us God. Its just to show respect for others. Its cultural. I see in Mughal period or at least from tv series that the court people bow infront of their rulers. Are the kings considered to be God then.

The Indians national anthem is however, one that exalts the mother land in a way thats explicitly Hindu. The divine status of bharat ma is not somthing that Muslims will accept. And regardless of how Indians define the meaning od the bow, for the Muslims its obviously something that runs counter to their religous belief.. So who are they the govt to disagree with them?

Also, correct me if im worng, because im not sure on this... The Muslim King is considered to be a holy ruler as in the khalifate... Accpeting his supremacy, is tantamount to accepting him as gods appointed ruler... Can someone clarify this?

I said earlier that I don’t know Sanskrit so I can’t agree/disagree, but seems like the song mentions someone bowing to some entity (perhaps land of India), bowing to any entity other than God is not allowed in Islam, so it is against Islam.

No, the kings in Indian lands were "kings", they perhaps accepted the existing culture, but bowing is not allowed in front of anyone be it Calpihate/King.

This is something which i dont understand.Its all right when muslim kings are rulers to bow infront of them but not all right if you praise ur mother land. It will then be considered shirk.
Its cultural when some muslim kings does but becomes a shirk when a secular majority ask you to do. Isnt it hypocracy.I have muslim friends who have no problem in singing the song or say VandeMatharam. If those people who dont want to sing it or say they dont have to come in the open and issue stupid ruling. This only gives stick to the BJP to use it as a poll plank and wip up passions. These fundamental muslims are playing into the hands of the BJP. Stupid Congress is just too stupid to realise it and is going to pay heavy price in the next election.

India is a secular country ... and in my oppinion muslims who think by singing this national song they will loose their faith, they dont know any better. I dont see anythign wrong with the song.
I would prefer a Paki Christain over an Indian muslim and thats just how it is. Nationalism is what everything has come down too.. and people who think this song should be scraped, to them I will say sorry sir u were born 60-70 years later! Its 2006 wake up!

Some Muslims in India think they are above the state just because of their religion. Be it adoption of Sharia law or issuing fatwas against insurance company (latest gimmick by some mullahs). Well, that does not work. Either live like an Indian or get out.
India doesn't belong to Hindu fundamentalist either. India only belongs to secular people. All Hindu fundamentalist must get out from India or must be kicked out by the secular elements. This dirt must be blown out as early as possible

As far as the idea of motherland or regarding the country as your mother or dying for the country is a concept which came from greek people. How much we all have enslaved ourselves (including me) with these ideas? We are enslaved by our religion and by our country and don't think beyond that.

If you know about Allama Iqbal, you won't be making this comment. He comes from my city and one of the greatest poets mankind has ever produced. His idea of Pakistan was right and accepted by everyone in the subcontinent. Sadly, we got truncated Pakistan due to congress leaders- Hyderabad, Lucknow, and entire Punjab was supposed to be in Pakistan but couldn't happen. There was a plan to settle Sikhs and Hindus of Punjab somewhere else but never happened. Hindus will never understand the sentiments of the minority committee. I think India's treatment of their minority community is the worst in the world. Hindus places of worship are right next to lot of mosques in India. Muslims should get reservation in jobs and education but are denied.

You have not really answered infiniti's question - why is 'sare jahan se accha' given such a high status in India ? Even Hindus sing it, without saying that it was written by the man who first dreamt of Pak. My point again is that Indian muslims should stop attaching Hindu connotation to Vande Mataram, because it is not a Hindu song. It is the national song of India.

Democracy is the will of majority of people. The majority of People here want VandeMatharam to be sung. Even the left wing state of Bengal wouldnt mind singing vande matharam.
