But I hope you don't mean that until we start doing that non-Muslims have to wait to be treated nicely ...
When did you visit Pakistan the last time.. You should come out of your Islamic center in UK sometime..
The other day I was traveling to my factory.. Some young students tried to stop a bus which was already full.. when the bus driver did not stop they threw stones on the bus breaking all the windows and ran away.. half of the people sitting in the bus had their heads bleeding after that..
I have seen this with my own eyes just in front of me..
I ask you again when was the last time you came to Pakistan..
90% of the religious violence victims in Pakistan are good muslims.. and I can not give you a better example than Najeeb who was killed by the mob.. He was my personal friend and I have not known a better muslim than him in my life strictly speaking in religious terms. He used to have very conservative religious views.. even after he was kidnapped by Taliban for a huge ransom and stayed in their custody for more than 2 months.. He used to recite Quran in his car sitting with three body guards after that when he used to go to his factory.. totally harmless-positive guy.. and his body was mutilated to an extent that I can not explain you..
What was his fault..
We have enough of this religious criminality in our country..!!!!
Well in that case you are saying that people need to stop being religious in order to be saved from religious violence ... I told you before the mobs are not being Islamic - they are being mobs and the reason why mobs exist is because the leaders of the state are allowing them to exist.
It is a horrible thing to have a close friend treated that way ... :( and I feel for you ... but the principle in what I am saying is still there ... and you can't lose hope ...
Agree with Talat Hussain. What kind of message we are sending to our non muslim brothers and sisters, that you will only get the same respect and status once you convert to Islam? This approach is not right, this is going to promote intolerance and sense of fear and insecurity among minorities.
The same goes vice-versa in case one accepts other than religion Islam.

We have to stop this public display of religion to show off that you are pious..

Yes well ... I have seen many bad things happen the last time I came to Pakistan ... :( .... If I were to say anything in such heated situations - no doubt I would be the one who people would throw stones at ... It has become a place of rage ... I feel that will only subside when people return to patience and charity as taught by the prophet Muhammad (SAW) ...
Me ... I'm a no body ... but the religion of Islam - that is the key that will unlock the strife that the world is in today ...
We have to teach people to keep their piousness to themselves instead of demonstrating it like mob killers and public display of undermining the minorities..

I see ... is this an example of the Pakistani intolerance you were talking about ... ???

Not at all, but can we expect non-Muslims to be treated nicely when we treat Muslims with slightly different postures than us during Namaz so badly?
We can see from Yazdi's example that it doesn't take much to get yourself a 'wajib-ul-qatl' fatwa in Pakistan. I have witnessed systematic killings of people (one of them was my teacher) in Pakistan in late 1990s, targeting sane voices in religious fraternity. They were Muslims as Muslims should be, talked about love for God and His people regardless of what beliefs they hold. They were professionals, educated and competent people. They all had beards, prayed, and indulged in what's called 'dawah'. This is all pre-9/11.
In such an intolerant society, should television channels be allowed to show what they do? You have to be very very careful about boundaries media should not cross. Apparently what they show sells and they are allowed to show it all.
I would agree with you if we had an educated, tolerant society and showing conversions on television could promote positivity and harmony.

I don't associate myself with such people ... the court of law is the only thing that can decide sentences. Yes ... I see ... the fact that there is so much ignorance doing something harmless like feature a conversion could have very harmful ramifications when filtered through the eyes of the 'ignorant' ones ....
For the first time I think you don't consider me as an Alien.. over the years we had too many arguments.. but really I had very similar learning curve as you had.. perhaps being elder to you I just had a little more exposure.. but believe me I consider you as a very decent human being with whom I would even trust with my life.. being a younger brother I just think that you will learn with exposure.. by the way I would like to host you and hareem when you come next time to Pakistan..
