^ Read the article I have given from Christian post.
I actually did read the article, and my reply was to your comment where you said "(thanks to the war on terror)" and I do not think WOT is entirely to be blamed for the religious intolerance that is (perhaps) the back bone of pakistani society.
I was checking another website today by Christians and they are also talking about a separate province in Punjab now, as the discrimination against them has increased manifolds during the past 10 years (thanks to the war on terror). Dont know where we are headed...
I have actually seen the whole period of the War on terror with my own eyes, I have seen the daily bombings (even on Mazaraats, mosques and Shia worship places) and the attack on Srilankan team. I have seen how the attitude of people (people have become more fundamentalists) have changed during the past 10 years, and the same thing even the Christian website is mentioning. The christians have always been looked down upon and discriminated, but now it seems that their situation is becoming grimmer.
I'll produce the paragraph here:
[quote]
Pakistan Christian Congress PCC in a petition urged Mr. Ban Ki Moon, Secretary General of United Nation to award Refugee Status to Pakistani Christians after rising violence against Christians after UN Security Council Resolution to action in Afghanistan after 9/11 attack in USA, from terrorists based in Afghanistan.

What would happen if some Muslim converted to Christianity, Hinduism, or god forbid, the worst of them all AHAMDISM, on live tv!
How long would he have to live?
I hope with same open mind you will accept someone converting from Islam to another religion if they publicise on the TV..
Glorification of faith conversion on media is sick **and brings down the morals of already depressed minorities in Pakistan.. **Only sick minded people can appreciate these actions by the media..
I am very clear that connecting this to minority feeling mistreated is absurd.
There is no point bringing the reciprocity. There is a law against apostasy in Pakistan. And that is another previously repeatedly discussed topic.
I can only laugh at your comment that it is 'sick' or endorsing the conversion on media is akin to being 'sick minded'.
And interestingly you quoted my post where I said at one end is gloating and at other end is (unnecessary) criticism.
Miss Manno - it is not often folks in a forum modify or even alter their viewpoint after receiving logical posts that are counter to their views. The fact that you are receptive to other views and accept logical views different from yours shows your wisdom. If I knew how to use the symbol of tipping ones hat - I would insert it right here! Cheers!!
Word is going around that this was a forced conversion or something along those lines. This is from Ansar Burney’s twitter account: Ansar Burney (AnsarBurney) on Twitter
Ansar Burney @AnsarBurney
“Sunil is a young man, who I was informed was forced to convert, though it seems now the actions were not by ARY TV.”
“Ansar Burney @AnsarBurney"My worker has full right of freedom but what Sunil told me is a painful story of Drama so I have to take action” Ansar Burney @AnsarBurney
“The ‘Burney Legal Solicitors’ London is going to send legal Notice to Anchor Maya Khan and TV owners of 10 million sterling pounds.”
Apparently he is investigating it and might take action against Maya Khan.
edit: How to make Wais with capital W in my name please?
“I served your cause to the best of my honesty, I subdued and killed my own Pakhtoons to promote the Empire’s interests but my services and my loyalty did not make me a Mughal” - Khushal Khan Khattak
“Two years ago, I observed the fast during Ramzan. There is no pressure on me to accept Islam, I want to accept Islam of my own will,” he said in response to questions from Aqmal.
The cleric then asked Sunil to say he was “accepting Islam without any pressure and without being forced by anyone” and to recite the “Kalimah Tayyibah”.
That’s okay, not many in Pakistan know her either. It was only after her “Love Police” episode that she became a bit more famous, even though I know here from her PTV (that national television, for the uninitiated) days back in the late 90s, that’s what Maya Khan started her TV career. Anyway, she has picked up a knack for raking up cheap publicity with paid stunts lately.
The Love Police episode I refer to above was when she took a few people and started raiding parks in Karachi.
At noon, nevertheless. And inquiring couples why they are sitting here, does their parents know about there whereabouts, so on and so forth. Her policing went so far that she asked a few of them to show their marriage certificate. This irked the people (at least on the social media like Twitter and Facebook) so much that they forced the channel to fire her. Which she was by Samaa TV.
Maya later revealed that everyone in that episode were paid actors, and it was a fake episode to garner ratings and all that. Appeared in a bunch of current affair programs, crying and all that. This Ramadan she was picked up by ARY Network, and advertised to hold special religious transmissions. I guess that’s what they were planning, these sneaky turds.
Having said that, never liked ARY Channel one bit, dislike them even more now.
Cheap, pathetic, bottom-of-the-barrel network. By the way, here’s the “Love Police” episode video. It’s a long one hour show, but I believe this is the shortened version:
I don’t know anyone that is relatively important, be it through the media or government. I know Imran Khan because I grew up with a dad who LOVED cricket!
Other than that, I know a few Pakistani musicians/ singers/ etc.
I’m not much of a political person. I’d rather not pay attention to bad news since there’s hardly any good news.
The reason this caught my attention was because of the controversy that was popping up left and right over it… And now I understand why
you got to be kidding. No one claims he was forced to convert. But clearly the conversion was publicized. He did not just happen to convert on what happened to be a live show.
My bad, I thought this was some live Ramadan majlis programme, since I hadn't watched it. Just read this was Maya Khan's show and I'm like surprise surprise...
The Hindu community feels that by showing a Hindu "convert" on live television can potentially have a number of repercussions.
If simply broadcasting a live conversion was enough to make the hindu community fear the worst of the worst repercussions, then isn't it also justified why the muslim minorities in the non-muslim countries often protest so strongly about anti-Islam propaganda considering hate crimes are on a rise? They’re not protesting to publicized conversions, they’re protesting to filth like the Dutch documentary or the French cartoons or the notorious Indian media’s fabricated reports or Terry Jones’s Quran burning sessions. So why is it that we, myself included, label those protests silly and irrational? I can pull up tens of posts from here saying that those muslims are being hypersensitive and they can leave the country if they feel threatened/offended, instead of saying yeah the authorities should respect the sensitivities of the minorities. I mean why should a non-secular country come under greater scrutiny than a secular country for allowing hate speech?
I think this issue is being blown out of proportion. Let me put it this way… let’s say Indian muslims protested against persecution, that would make complete sense. But if they created so much uproar over some bollywood movie scene or some star plus controversy, that wouldn’t make any sense to me. Similarly, I don’t get the uproar over telecasting a conversion (unless it was forced or Hinduism was bashed) but I stand by the Pakistani minorities in speaking up against the persecution and putting pressure on the government to put an end to it.
