The day this happen, I'll go on long vacation...alone, finally...! ;)
In theory everyone is accepting of the wife earning more and I would think where husband makes $80K and the wife $85K, it's not much of a difference between their incomes. Added to which, together they make over 6 figures which gives them a comfortable lifestyle and even if one or both lost their jobs - you tighten the belt and can manage a good standard of life.
But lets change things up a little bit. She earns $120K and he earns $45K - strictly due to their professional choices/ambitions/abilities. If as a couple they've gotten used to living on the joint income which provides a pretty darn good lifestyle (large family house, two cars, vacation, 401K, kids education fund, etc.), - what happens if she wants to stay home and look after the kids - how does losing her income (the significantly larger one) impact the family. Does the family downsize their lifestyle, does this lead to personal and financial problems? Should she leave her job to raise the kids, is it fair for her to complain about losing the standard of life she's become accustomed to?

Well then you get rid of her and find someone else who is making more money than you so you can continue being a happy bum.
