monitor lizard is the one which was used to hold the rope for climbing on wall of forts by maratha armies?
I think thats fiction, cant imagine a monitor lizard tail being long enough to support a man to scale a wall and besides the lizard would not be too happy either... plus it must be a small fort too.
Oh yeah Lizard is like a lot of other creatures easily turned into food or oil... I dont entirely agree but if it came to it and there was no alternative then roast lizard seems a fair game.
Lizards should be respected however they are after all little dinosaurs so maybe the'yve been around longer than us
I have encoutered these things quite a bit…unfortunately we have loads in Sri Lanka, the first time I saw it I was like 4-5yrs old and totally freaked out, the one I saw was spotted…freakyyyyyyy…it was in our garden, I fell on my bum when I saw it and could not move…I could only scream for my mom who came running out of the house with a stick and chased it off…
But I have also seen one exactly like this one PS…same size and same colour…but this was outside our garden…and it was like 5yrs back…I took a pic too…
This time on vacation I saw one again…but it was crawling on my front porch…was smaller though..black colour and had like yellow spots or lines…freaked out again…screamed for my hubby who then chased it away, and turned around and asked me “WHAT THE HELL WAS THAT!!!”, he had never seen one either…I just grinned and said “Welcome to Sri Lanka”
I didn’t derail that much… —>monitor lizard---->karachi—>chipkali(much tinier lizard)—>karachi bridal salon urban legend
It all flows quite nicely I would say
I don’t make up the Urban Legends/Myths, just pass them on
But yea, everytime I hear that story (and for some reason, I’ve heard it alot), I think to myself…if homegirl felt something crawling around in her hair, why the heck didn’t she pull the pins out, take down the hairdo and shake her hair out???
The monitor lizards were used as a siege weapon in the 17th century apparently.
Legend has it that in the battle of Sinhagad, one of the Maratha rulers commanders "Tanaji" used a monitor lizard called Yeshwanti. He had a rope tied around its waist to climb a steep vertical rock face.

I'm neither. I once read a review for a book on Battle of Sinhagad. Never got around to reading it but I remember reading about Yeshwanti and getting really amazed by it.
