this reminds me of a very "wise" diwana quote - "what is the use of lingerie? it only blocks my view"

Re: Hajabi girls going half-naked in ONLY LADIES PARTY...
Its not permissible in Islam to dress scantily in front of another woman, especially in front of be-haya woman. It is in fact advised to do parda from be-haya women.
I actually share the same opinion as you, but there are many posters here who are interpreting the ruling about Awrah differently, including some hijabans, hence my comment. Someone mentioned this as being a desi v arab thing. To a certain extent, I believe this to be true. I find, in general, pakistani women are much more conservative and modest in their dressing compared to their arab counterparts. So maybe the cultural influence plays a big part here too.

lol I was speaking about hijabis and non-hijabis alike ... I feel the same about makeup.. some of my friends would rather die than go to college without makeup... some carry themselves equally well without being made up.. no disrespect intended to hijabis/non-hijabis or makeup lovers (I happen to be one of them)..
Re: Hajabi girls going half-naked in ONLY LADIES PARTY...
I absolutely agree with all of you who say that one has higher expectations from a hijabi because they are suppose to represent etc I know we all have expectations from people be that good or bad but the problem is just because we have those expectations doesn't mean others have to come through on them.
I believe if a hijabi women is dressed in a manner that is Islamically allowed than there should be no question about her modesty. She has just as much right to wear fashionable clothes and dress up as a non hijabi or any other women. Yes, ofcourse it is wrong to dress in a manner that goes beyond what is permitted (depending on the opinion one follows can be only navel to knee) but I still don't agree that its worse than dressing in that manner in public vs behind closed doors with only your girlfriends.
Think of it this way should a hijabi girl not get her hair done, or wear makeup to girl only parties because isn't it all meant for her husband only? What if she isn't married? So when can she dress up and feel good about herself like other women?
Re: Hajabi girls going half-naked in ONLY LADIES PARTY...
not all hijabis are like that...some have the same morals as some non-hijabis who said they wouldn't show skin to other women.
Re: Hajabi girls going half-naked in ONLY LADIES PARTY...
what's so horrible about a hijabi girl smoking? drinking, sure..but smoking? is smoking considered immoral now?
with attitudes as judgmental as these, do we also expect good hijabi women to be dormant in their intimate lives (with their husbands, for clarification) ? it wouldn't suit them/their image after all to be playful and naughty, even if it is within limits of what is Islamically allowed, would it.

no, actually it's worse than just immoral, it's haram.
Re: Hajabi girls going half-naked in ONLY LADIES PARTY...
Since when is smoking haram?
Re: Hajabi girls going half-naked in ONLY LADIES PARTY...
Why are we so hard on hijabis? Non-hijabi women smoke, they wear sleeveless clothes, short dresses, skirts? BUT a hijabi woman can't even do that in front of other women (who are friends and trustworthy).
If someone is wearing tie and dye peace sign shirt what would be your first impression of them? If I have a pot leaf flag painted on my car what would be your first impression? These are all symbols which stands for something. And people carrying them around get associated with the message that symbol represent. Now tell me islamically what does hijabb stands for?

Since a long time ago, mentioned in Reliance of the Traveller by Imam Shafi, most Hanafi scholars have taken the same opinion.
But according to some scholars, it's makruh like woman-led prayer is makruh. :)

Agreed, and that's why its hard to say that all hijabis are pious muslims. Things aren't black and white unfortunately.

Re: Hajabi girls going half-naked in ONLY LADIES PARTY...
Hmmm, Im sure someones said this already, but I think a lot of us women don't know that we're not even supposed to show our boobies and butts in front of women either. A certain amount of sharm and hayaa is expected by a woman regardless of the type of gathering.
Khair, next time, just don't go to such parties.
Dear Guppies...
I don't mean to offend you guys in any way but would like to discuss this issue. I went to a hajabi girl birthday party recently and I was quite shocked to see the environment which was similar to a night club. These girls normally wear hajab and abbaya all the time in school, however, they were totally shameless in girls. Every single Pakistani, Arab, and Afghani hajabi girl was revealing her skin to the maximum. My mind can't seem to accept the big transformation from abaya/hajab to mini skirts, short dresses, back exposed, low-neck clothes, and etc. I don't wear hajab but I wouldnt feel comfortable in showing my cleavage, thighs, and legs to females that I have never encountered or even if I have known them for ages. My mind and heart won't allow me to change my personality 100%... Please explain, how can a person see this being modest?...
