Re: Hajabi girls going half-naked in ONLY LADIES PARTY...
zobia, maybe in case #1.
but for hijabis i know, its by choice, and IMO, you cant be a lesbian and wear a hijab by choice at the same time.
i have seen hijabis in abaya, and smoking...in dt toronto.
so when u start believing that u have seen everything, u start seeing weird things that u might have never imagined.
Re: Hajabi girls going half-naked in ONLY LADIES PARTY...
Why are we so hard on hijabis? Non-hijabi women smoke, they wear sleeveless clothes, short dresses, skirts? BUT a hijabi woman can't even do that in front of other women (who are friends and trustworthy).

this isnt a thread to judge hijabis. they are human like everyone else and are not perfect.
Re: Hajabi girls going half-naked in ONLY LADIES PARTY...
As long as Hijabi girls dont behave like a bhooka person who did not get food in weeks, and dont act desperate and totally out in such parties, a non-hijabi/non-abaya fashionable outfit is perfectly fine.
Re: Hajabi girls going half-naked in ONLY LADIES PARTY…
cuz we expect better from hijabis. we believe they are closer to ALLAH SWT, and they show that in their practices.
which is not true cuz not all hijabis pray 5 times a day, and they recite Quran everyday.
i believe many wear it cuz they look cute in hijab, or either their parents/hubby/in-laws asked them to do, going through something psychological, hide their sideburns, dont have to comb/dress up, etc etc
Re: Hajabi girls going half-naked in ONLY LADIES PARTY...
^ why would you expect that zobia? why are you putting hijabis up on a pedastal? Like I said, hijabis are no different than a non hijabi. Only Allah SWT knows what it is in their hearts, so why are you so quick to judge?
True, there are some that do wear it for the reason you mentioned, but why is it any of your business?
and what's with the hijabi judging threads popping aroudn these days? everyone should just worry abuot their own selves. we're all going in our own graves alone.
Re: Hajabi girls going half-naked in ONLY LADIES PARTY...
In today's day and age, I think people really need to let go of romanticisng or criticising every dhari wala and Hijaban. Its best to see them see as normal human beings with no importance above or below anyone else just because they dress in a certain way. It should all be about character and deeds. I personally feel that a lot of people somehow expect Hijabis to have distinct characters and manners like great Islamic women like Hazrat Fatima ra, Hazrat Aisha ra, Hazrat Zainab etc etc, because they are following their sunnat. Some people have this very false sense of inner and outer perfection associated with Hijabans due to their dress code, which is deceiving, just because Hijabans follow the sunnat of these great women exemplifying the words of Quran, doesn't mean they become those women...no one can. Start thinking like that and next time you won't shocked to see Hijaban snogging/smoking/swearing in public.

covering yourself is really an honorable act, cuz you are killing your inner desire of getting noticed. I am not judging them or anything i am stating what i have seen, notices, experienced. In fact we both are saying the same thing that they are not ordinary than any other non-hijabi.
anyho, back to the topic, as i said earlier that i had the same topic so i do have problems with all girls parties, where girls wear behooda arab-inspired belly dancing clothes and then playing behooda games.
Re: Hajabi girls going half-naked in ONLY LADIES PARTY...
LOL, did anyone notice the person who opened the thread their id is BombShellBabe?
Zobia, I wouldn't go a party where there are behoda games or other behoda things happening but these sort of parties are hosted by non-hijabis as well. We can't pinpoint one group of people and not the other.
Re: Hajabi girls going half-naked in ONLY LADIES PARTY...
I understand where zobia is coming from. Whenever we used to go out on school trips, we were told to behave as we're representing the school in our uniforms. Same applies to those who're carrying a religious symbol with them. Do you expect a muslim man to drink? Yeah it is not unheard of. But would you not be surprised if an Imaam drank? Yeah imams are normal humans but they have taken on a responsibility and failing to live up to the responsibility will result in them being scrutinized more so than an average muslim. Why was everyone shocked at that video of Amir Liaqat in which he was talking about movies and using not-so-civilized language? Don't bazillions of desis/muslims do that on a daily basis? People expected better from him because he himself took on the responsibility to represent his religion. Speaking outside of the context of religion, Pakistanis in general living outside of Pakistan are representatives of the motherland, wouldn't you agree? Hijabis knowingly/unknowingly take on a responsibility to represent their religion and people expect them to "live up" to it. We might not like the responsibility, the pressure, the constant questioning, but it's there... I've been here for 2 years and from day 1 I've seen guppies discuss everything from how hijabis eat to their fashion sense and whatnot.. this is not changing any time soon. Wo kehte hain na ek gandi machli puray talaab ko ganda kar deti hai. Aren't blacks associated with gang crime, mexicans with drug operations, muslims with terrorism etc etc... it never ends.
Zobia what I do disagree with is your statement that "many" wear it for the wrong reasons so they're not religious to begin with. No, this is a generalization. Many wear it because they want to, *some *wear it because they don't have a choice and I don't blame them for being rebellious and heading to the other extreme and in turn ruining it for the rest of us. I mean really has no one ever met a hijabi/hajabi/hojabi who happens to be ... normal? No? Oh dear... must be nearly extinct.
(This obviously has nothing to do with the original topic...)
Re: Hajabi girls going half-naked in ONLY LADIES PARTY…
I guess it comes down to expectations…be that fair or not that’s the way general society works.
When you dress a certain way, you set the bar for people to expect a certain behaviour from you.
Be it right or wrong, when you make a conscious decision to distinguish yourself and appear as a minority then you will have to deal with such mindsets. It would be a perfect world if you didn’t and quite frankly we are not there yet.
One guy in my office was complaining how he was offended that a hijaban wouldn’t shake his hand at a business meeting…we spent a great deal of time explaining to him that he was wrong to approach her in that manner because her attire should have given him a clue that she will not reciprocate/appreciate his gesture. He should have known better.
I tend to look upon hijabans as people that have a greater respect for their faith than I have. I don’t mean to put them on a pedestal but I would be lying if I said that I don’t automatically give them a higher level of respect than I do to non-hijabis because I admire their conviction and the strength of their imaan. (This doesn’t mean that I don’t respect others, but I feel that hijabis are closer to fulfilling/completing their faith than non-hijabis.)
When I see them behaving like or worse (i.e. in the case of “dress slutty”, “dress sexy”, etc.) than non-hijabis I lose respect for them. It saddens me to see that they truly are no closer to Allah than the average girl on the street that is dressed sexy or slutty. (I could go a step further and say that she perhaps has the guts to do it openly rather than sleazing it out with her gal friends behind closed doors but that would be inflammatory, wouldn’t it. )
Its kind of like looking up to someone and them letting you down…you come to the realization that in your own twisted kind of way (what with no scarf but sharm-o-haya in your heart, mind and eyes) Allah just might look kindly upon you anyway…
Re: Hajabi girls going half-naked in ONLY LADIES PARTY...
besides......what's the need to dress sexy or dress to impress? who are you trying to get sexy with? isn't that supposed to be reserved for your spouse?
and what need is there to impress your friends? why can't you impress someone while you are wearing sleeves and a longer skirt?
Re: Hajabi girls going half-naked in ONLY LADIES PARTY…
I was thinking the same.
So some girls decide to throw an all ladies party and they all dress in miniskirts, tanktops with low neckline/backlines and what not, and what then…
Re: Hajabi girls going half-naked in ONLY LADIES PARTY...
Hard is it might be for some ppl to believe not all women dress up just to impress/for attention, perhaps they just do it to feel and look good for themselves and they take pride in their appearance..
Certain posters (eg Diwana) have said in the past that women only glam up to attract male attention.. yeah, you wish..
Re: Hajabi girls going half-naked in ONLY LADIES PARTY…
yes…someone please elaborate…what then?
I totally agree with you…and understand about not necessarily dressing up to attract male attention…but isn’t the whole point of hijab to not attract attention to yourself…who cares whether it is male or female? And if you have the strength of character to do this then I would assume that this strength comes from a conviction that is stronger than those who do not practice hijab. Why then the need to “let it all hang out”?
