I can understand what OP is trying to say. Just because it is permissable in Islam to dress like that infront of other women, doesn't mean every individual should feel comfortable with it. Its like not all men feel comfortable having even a second wife. Although they could marry 4.
It really depends on the individual's own level of comfort.

Ok, I didn't read all the responses so bare with me if there is some repetition.
There are two diff opinion on what a woman's satar is for other women: (apologies I don't have any references at the moment)
1. Navel to knee (same as for a man to man)
2. Navel to knee including her upper body (breast)
The reason that's given for the two opinions is because some scholars understand that women have to breast feed and should be able to so infront of other women. Others say that yes, a women should be able to breastfeed but in a discrete manner and not openly exposing herself fully.
So, now to answer the question. Yes, It is perfectly modest if hijabi girls wear knee length dresses even if it exposes their arms, backs etc. at a women's only party. I have been to many girls only parties with my friends (as most of them are arab) and everyone dresses as they feel comfortable. Some girls wear pants, some wear skirts and some wear dresses - whatever they are comfortable with. Those of you who have a problem with hijabi women exposing - what is Islamically allowed in front of other women should stop judging and start reading up on the topic. It's easy to judge a hijabi and hold them to greater scrutiny but remember they are humans too and may make mistakes sometimes.

But your judgment towards anyone who not as 'classy' as you, is what's rude. So please, before wearing a Murad dress, take a class on etiquette's.
How about you take a reading class before you attempt to a pass smart ass judgement which doesn't even mean make sense.

I think maybe shalwar kameez is still considered more covered than dresses and arab women tend to wear dresses more often than desi's. In any case, I really don't get what the fuss is about? Hijabi girls don't have to cover themselves head to toe in front of other women.

Its not permissible in Islam to dress scantily in front of another woman, especially in front of be-haya woman. It is in fact advised to do parda from be-haya women.

TLK, brings up a good point because from what I have read the conditions change depending on who the women are. If its someone you trust than you can follow one of the two opinions I mentioned earlier. Some say the distinction is muslim, non-muslim women and women who are "be-haya" as TLK put it..others say its whether you trust the woman not to reveal it to others(especially men).

hijab is a compulsory dress code in many Islamic countries. they dont observe it they way women observe in Canada, US, etc...where its up to woman either to take it or not.
many parents force their daughter wear hijab. they believe hijab is a protection.
so in both these cases it is possible to have closet lesbos.

I grew up with Arab women and I think they just have a different cultural mindset than Pakistanis. A lot of my friends wore Hijab when going out but at home with their fathers and brothers were ok wearing shorts or tank tops or just basically not being covered from top to bottom. Whereas in my family wearing even capris in front of the men in my family was a big deal.
Arabs are also a little more westernised than Pakistanis in that they don't wear their typical Arab dress that often and dress in western clothes regularly. Whereas Pakistani's tend to wear their traditional shalwar kurta etc. Even at Arab weddings a lot of times the bride will be wearing a white dress, it'll be a segregated wedding too so it usually is sleeveless or strapless or just like anything they would wear here in the western world. From their perspective I don't think they consider it anything out of the norm, if you were invited to a party here chances are everyone would be dressed up nicely in the summer in short dresses or sleeveless or whatever. Similarly they wear the hijab or abaya outdoors because culturally they're supposed to cover up in front of non mehram men but when they're hanging out with women they'll just wear whatever they like.
I guess it seems weird to the OP because its such a difference from one to another. But i used to go to those parties all the time and none of my friends were consciously trying to look slutty or anything, they were just going along with the fashion trend. Its really the same when I go out with my Canadian girl friends here and shop for a party.

but for hijabis i know, its by choice, and IMO, you cant be a lesbian and wear a hijab by choice at the same time.
