Ok people are either being defensive in response to the OP's question or skipping straight to their "live and let live" philosophy.
1: Can someone please answer whether this is perfectly acceptable in the light of Islam or not?
2: Obviously we all live and let live, that is why women dancing in front of na-mehram men is perfectly acceptable these days so why not women revealing skin in front of other women? But justifications isn't what the OP is looking for. Even if she's just trolling, I'm not, I genuinely want to know what the awra/hayaa criteria for women in front of other women is. This thread should perhaps be in R&S.

Perhaps it doesn't come across as weird to you because you know of it to be a common practice......but for others it may be weird because they do not know that it happens all over the middle east.
I can understand needing a reprieve from the moral police......but going from one extreme to the other? Seriously?

I don't understand why people are getting so offended, its a genuine question, I have plenty of goras who wonder about same thing. They just don't know enough about Arab culture, which exotically so rock n roll.

BBQ - it was pretty straight forward to me. Muslim women in front of Muslim have to cover up from their navel to their knees, just like if they were with their men mehram Muslim women in front of non-muslim women, have to be all covered up except for their hands, face and feet, just like with a non mehram.
Jolie - Well next time in the future, the OP just shouldnt attend these events. And its not only in Arab culture, South asian girls are doign the same thing.
IMO - as long as they cover up their awrah, i have no issue with it.

Those are probably classless idiots who write on invitation to wear something "slutty" or they're just freshies. Well 'dress to impress' could mean all sorts of things for different people.

Where did all that come from? I was talking about writing dress "slutty" on an invitation, which so rude and classless.
I think you probably meant dress 'sexy', because dressing sexy and slutty are two completely different things. :)

Jolie, since you're so classy in your Zuhair Murad gown (which I'm sure you can afford) and you wouldn't even touch a forever21 dress, congratulations, you've accomplished a lot.
But your judgment towards anyone who not as 'classy' as you, is what's rude. So please, before wearing a Murad dress, take a class on etiquette's.

Dear Guppies...I don't mean to offend you guys in any way but would like to discuss this issue. I went to a hajabi girl birthday party recently and I was quite shocked to see the environment which was similar to a night club. These girls normally wear hajab and abbaya all the time in school, however, they were totally shameless in girls. Every single Pakistani, Arab, and Afghani hajabi girl was revealing her skin to the maximum. My mind can't seem to accept the big transformation from abaya/hajab to mini skirts, short dresses, back exposed, low-neck clothes, and etc. I don't wear hajab but I wouldnt feel comfortable in showing my cleavage, thighs, and legs to females that I have never encountered or even if I have known them for ages. My mind and heart won't allow me to change my personality 100%... Please explain, how can a person see this being modest?...
