Re: Guys, would you let your woman wear a revealing dress..
Thanks TKL for the link. But unless I missed it, I did not see any difference in gunnah level of exposing more than what is premissibel. Yeah article says Awra limitations are different in front of different people but it does not say you are more guilty if you show your boobs to namahram or your belly or your arms. By the way I am little confused about the Awra of woman in front of mahram… It say you from navel down to knees and you back and stomach only…( confused waala sign)
Re: Guys, would you let your woman wear a revealing dress..
according to my hubby..
1.) sleevless desi outfit (NOT a sari blouse though!) is alright at an all women dholki/mehndi/kitty party, or if we're at a private party of our age group where there are NO ghar ke barray (and that has only happened once or twice in 13 years, lol)
2.) all saris are okay EXCEPT: super short blouses with cleavage bearing necks or very deep backs, or very thin chiffon where you can see the whole midriff
3.) In Western kapray, I don't wear anything sleeveless without a cardigan/shrug/outer layer...knee length dresses and skirts are okay...capris/peddle pushers are okay in summer...i don't wear anything tight or super form fitting,
4.) When we go to waterparks, or take the kids to the beach, he's alright with me wearing a swimsuit with a cover up that comes mid thigh (usually one of his tshirts)...I'm not much into water sports anyway, so I usually just chill under an umbrella somewhere while he and the kids play
Overall, fairly normal dressing, nothing too revealing, low cut, short etc.....he's never even asked me or thought about hijab/covering my hair, nor have I ever considered it, so we're pretty much on the same page....and yes, he wears cargo shorts in the summer, doesn't bother me...I do all his shopping for him anyway...lol

This is when the concept of modesty comes in...
Obviously you're not going to find any verse or hadith that says showing arms is worse than showing breasts because the basic idea of modesty exists in every society that's why even in secular countries we have laws against nudity in public.
Re: Guys, would you let your woman wear a revealing dress..
You are comparing apples to oranges here. Muslim concept of modesty, gunnah, sawab all comes from religion and it's very specific guidelines.Anyhow, I guess it is a stupid debate. If I believed in judgment day and the fires of hell, I will be super sure not to even test the water and be on the safe side.

The concept of modesty is natural to human beings, that's why you'd see even non-religious or atheists who are modest and believe in modesty.
Religiously speaking, modesty is part of faith.
I don't know what you mean by "not even test the water"....does it mean not even showing your face out of modesty and haya? Who knows, if someone covers her body and face with that intent it might be written as a good deed for her.

I don't think that's true. There are plenty of tribes in the amazon as well as in Africa where women walk around topless and it's not considered nudity. The concept of modesty is probably cultural.

The natural condition is to cover yourself, it is nakedness which is cultural.
Re: Guys, would you let your woman wear a revealing dress..
^Really and how is that? I don't see children having issue with being naked or other species of animals... I don't disagree that non religious folks also abide by forms of modesty be it cultural or whatever, but for a religious person modesty and it's guidelines are very specific and not some arbitrary measures. I don't need to cover my hairline to be modest but in Islam it is part of a modest dress code and a requirement.By testing the waters, i meant that in Islam a woman's dress code is pretty clear and I don't see any gray area that will make it ok to wear capris and half sleeves that our very Muslims sisters like to wear. But get all haw haye if some one wears a skirt or dress showing legs.
Re: Guys, would you let your woman wear a revealing dress..
Hubby is super strict on clothes and quite rightly as he feels that it is what is correct in Islam, He is happy with the new trend in flowy long dresses as they don't show the silhoutte and really wants me to wear a scarf/cover my head and I am happy to do that in Pakistan but find it hard to do here in the UK,
My personal view is that you dress for your husband and if that means I wear revealing clothes only in his presence and the 4 corners of our home when alone then that is fine but why for others..

There are different forms of hijab in Islam so in some societies showing shins is considered normal, in some societies it isn't. You're talking about awra for prayer.
