stupid question, but what exactly IS the doodh pillai, i mean apart from the obvious drinking milk thing. what is its significance, is there money involved, does the dulhan give it to the dulha or what? we've never done this in our family- we always do joota chuppai so i know the process involved in that.
^doodh pilai is just a rasm, similar to a jootha chupai. doodh pilai is usually done on the day of the baraat and jootha chupai is on the 4th day. at my wedding we just did the doodh pilai, at some weddings they only do jootha chupai. it's really personal preference on what rasm you wanna do or if you want to do both.
its the same process as the jootha chupai, usually the brides sisters bring a glass of milk (or any other drink but usually milk) and have the groom drink from it and then take money from him.
I have a question. The money collected from doodh pillai (I dont have any sisters, but lots of cousins and friends), does this money only go to the single girls, or does it go to all the close girls (cousins and friends)?
In my family they give the milk for free, as a form of refreshment, as the dulha has travelled a fair bit.
The groom has to pay up though, for being able to sit down, with his bride, on stage.
