why are you guys overly obsessed with hijab of others. Allah will ask you about your hijab, not anyone else's hijab [this goes for both male and females]. Besides hijab should be in one's eyes and heart, not some piece of cloth over head. Haven't you heard of "ghaze basar"?
It's their business, I don't really care. It takes courage to wear hijab. As long as the one doing hijab is not making a mockery of it and does not impose/look down upon those that don't wear it.
I think headscarf is a trend and South Asian muslims in West adopted it after seeing Syrian and Palestinian women wearing it over western clothing. Another reason I stopped wearing the headscarf was that I didn't like being called HIJABI.
^Ditto, the concept of hijab is a dupatta and just placing it on top of your head amongst desis. Hijab is definitely a "new" trend. The only time even a dupatta is wrapped tightly back in the day was during namaz and such.
I think that's an unfair generalization. No, its not a trend for everyone or to be honest I don't know anyone who takes it as a trend. I have had a conversation with my arab friends too and they don't take it as a trend or a culture thing either.
Hijab IS a trend amongst Arabs. Maybe your friends were from a more liberal country in the middle east lie Lebanon or something. Arabs tend to may more attention covering their hair and you’ll often see body-hugging clothes yet they’ll have their head covered. Think of Sheika Moza (of Qatar), she is VERY stylish but keeps her hair covered, even when wearing skirts w/ slits and leg baring. Not that I have a problem with any of those, but I find it odd paired w/ hijab.
I think Desi muslims tend to put more emphasis on covering their shape/chest while many liberal Arabs will not like wearing short sleeves or going without a hijab but will not have a problem with skirts with slits or uber-fitted dresses.
You missed my point, its not a TREND for everyone so its not fair for you to generalize. To be honest, I could care less what some Queen (or whoever you are talking about) wears. I know plenty of Desi and Arab women who wear hijab for hijab. For someone to say oh it’s just a trend a desi’s are trying to follow the Arabs is unfair.

Totally agree. Unfortunately many Pakistanis think it's more important to look like a Muslim than to behave like one.

I'm not saying they don't wear it for the right reasons. I'm saying it's become a trend NOW to cover your head via hijab. I gave an example of how Desi women way back in the day used to use a dupatta to cover their head.
Since I'm not one to miss a chance to fuel the fire.......here goes:
True story. A former desi coworker had told me that one of her nieces was considering doing hijab to increase rishta prospects. Now, this is the not the first time I've heard of this.
Not saying that all women who do hijab do it with such intentions. But like I said earlier...as long as one does it for the right reasons, doesn't make a mockery of it, and doesn't look down on those who don't.
However, i like the arguments AGAINST wearing one, its nice how selective we are in our religion. we tend to have REASONS why we dont wear it, when its a farz, its as simple as that. i dont wear it because i dnt want to. but ul never hear anyone give that reason, most will say `ohhh because i cant get a job/people in my are dnt wear it/i cant get a rishta/people will say thisn nthat...EXCSES...why dnt us girls admit we just cant be arsssedddddd.....
whats farz, woh hum karte nahi, and yeh rasmey, woh hum puri zindagi shuk say kareingey....

and I am saying it has NOT become a trend. You have your opinion and I have mine - let's leave it at that.
RV and Ghost you two enjoy a cat fight I don't get down and dirty or add fuel.
