SO my kids and I have been getting sick, getting well, and sick again since late October. Flu, bronchitis, ear infections, cough…we’ve all had antibiotics and taken good care. We all eat healthy and take multivitamins and drink fluids and have a humidifier and wash hands and all that good stuff…
They have an excellent system in place. No one is allowed to eat without either washing hands or sanitizing, and their desks are cleaned with a sanitizer at the end of the day. Of course the main reason could be that many kids are sick this year and they are exposed to each other, and then the 3 of us exchange our germie friends as well
Hey Niksik - have you tried opening the windows? I know that sounds a bit weird, but fresh air going through the house is actually a big help. It brings in new, clean air (depending on where you live though) and gets rid of the stale stuff. People who shut up their doors and windows, breathe the same air day after day...not healthy. I read this article in a health magazine a few years back about the "sick building syndrome" which described how people who live and work in poorly ventilated buildings get sick more often than those who get fresh air. The theory was that if you breathe the same air day in and day out, that air will inevitably get full of germs and bugs that people bring in and if there's no ventilation, all that bad stuff stays there and keeps making people sick.

Hope that helps.
Good advice! Add to that, check your ventilation system, was it cleaned out recently or not?
Just an offtopic comment, :D -- sometimes all these multivitamins and other extras don't really help. =) people who don't consume these at all are perfectly fine too (ie: my family here)
Anyway, I think we all need to toughen our immune systems. Please recommend ways of doing that other than consuming vit C rich food, eating a healthy diet, getting fresh air, exercising, what else...
Well, again I have a weird sounding suggestion. When you get sick, don't fight it too much. We all get colds, headaches, fevers, etc. from time to time. It's inevitable. But if you start taking breaking out the cough syrup, the cold medicine, the antibiotics right away - well you will probably feel better fast, but you do your immune system a disservice. Because just like anything else, if you don't use it, you lose it or at the very least, weaken it. My mom's uncle (may Allah give him jannat) was a doctor and he said that the best way to get a stronger immune system is to let it do its job - fight illness. Let that cold or fever run it's course...your body actually can handle it. All you have to do is rest, drink soup, get some fresh air from time to time, and eat healthy.
That said, you should always go to a doctor and get help when things are serious. And medicine is not evil - it's a wonderful thing that helps save our lives and keeps us healthy. But as with everything else, we need to be moderate about it.
Mistral i use the same concept with myself... i try to let my body fight it rather then popping out tablets.. i dont want to get my immune system dependent on drugs... but when i cant stand it i pop out the pills
immune system gets weak and thus easier target, so just build up immunity, see what you can eat drink and do to improve it. I know what u mean though, 2 yesrs ago begum and kids kept getting sick again and again, i mean from sep-jan they were sick every few weeks. but then kids were with othe rkids begum being a teacher was surrounded by kids and it did a number on them. I was not affected as much, however, sometimes when u do get sick so much u will see the next season or so u will be doing better because you have built immunity to the stuff.
have TLK do your and bacchis khidmat, thats what I did when i was the only healthy one in the house.
chal uth TLK, bhabhi kay liya chicken corn soup bana..shabash
Hmmm...you know I have been teaching at the school also where 6 kids were diagnosed with positive H1N1s. Even though we tested negative, we did get some sort of lingering thingie... then again the same association...
I guess we need a break from it all and some chicken corn soup prepared by someone :@:
When we go though the cycles of colds, I try to change our pillow covers and sheets wagerah more frequently than the normal days, and make sure to open all the curtains and hope that mr sun will somewhat disinfect the house. I also clean the door knobs and kitchen/washroon faucets more than usual, and common areas should be cleaned more frequently (may be by the person who is not sick :) may be your hubby :))
My mom always used to make sure that if we have cold then we do have a bath everyday(followed by sitting in a nice toasty room with a bowl of chicken noodle soup)
One important thing, rest, sachi mein makes a big difference.
